Last Friday, Mr. Tonkin was at the Chiropractor for a sore shoulder issue. While there, he had a heart attack and subsequent
stroke. Thank you God that he was at the Chiropractor for an ongoing shoulder issue and not at home.
If you know Mr.Tonkin, he would have just ignored it and slept on it until the morning.
We found out yesterday the extent of what had happened to his body.
Here's the rundown:
(Again, please keep in mind our medical expert ineptness.)
--massive heart attack
--Ischemic Stroke
*We believe this is the type of stroke he had because of other items we are about to detail.
--Artery to the brain was blocked/clogged.
--Clots in his neck.
--He was in CCU and they were hoping to move him to NCU soon.
--Bleeding ulcers
--Blood pressure is high.
*As we were told elsewhere, they cannot give him blood thinners right now.

Update from his business partner:
He spoke to Mr.Tonkin on the phone earlier this morning.
He says Mr.Tonkin's speech is slow, but clear.
He now has some movement.
Please pray for his eye sight that it is fully restored.
If we've been told correctly, this will be a long journey ahead for him.
Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
We all greatly appreciate all the prayers, thoughts, sentiments, and concern from all those online.
We'll try to update everyone when we get more information and permission to do so.
Also, thank you to a very special FReeper who has seen Mr.Tonkin personally and has reported back that he's starting to get better.
Apologies for anyone we've missed! Thank you to StarCMC and Brad's Gramma for trying to get everyone's name from the thread.
Thanks to all connected with getting us this update. Prayers continuing. This news strikes me as cautiously optimistic.
Thanks for the update!
Prayers continue!
We continue with him in prayer. Thanks for the update MoJo2001.
Thanks for the update on Tonkin. It sounds good and yet doesn't sound good to me on a personal knowledge of the stroke damage. Continued prayers.
Thanks for the update. Will be praying for him.
Thank you for the update.
Thanks for the update
As his body recovers they should be able to start him on BP meds and thinners.
Tonk definately has a long road ahead of him, but he should recover much if not all that he has lost. There will be bumps and setbacks along the way, but this type of stroke is survivable and recoverable. Hopefully his heart is not too badly damaged.
Will continue prayers, and cannot wait for the day that we get a message from Tonk himself.
Thanks for the update, it sounds like there is at least some reason to be optimistic.
Prayers continue.
thanks for the update.. many prayers going up for TONK
Thank you MoJo. Wonderful to hear he is talking! Continued prayers for his full recovery.
Thanks for the update!
Just got to my computer......so sorry to hear the news! Prayers from Left Coast going up for Tonkin! Thanks for the updates.
Tonk needs our prayers!
Thank you so much for the update. Prayers continue.
More prayers for continued positive news for one of our own.
I think that this is really really good news. Being able to speak and know who you're speaking to this soon after a stroke bodes very well for rehab.
In the olden days, when I first became a nurse, it was basically a hopeless situation when someone had a stroke. Nowadays there are great treatments but many depend on time, so you are right...the fact that he was at the doctor in the first place really was a huge answer to a prayer we didn't know we needed!
I'm very optimistic. He does have a long road ahead, but all signs at this point are good! The faster you start getting things back after a stroke, the better.
Continuing to pray in light of the optimistic outlook. The Lord is good, we must all keep our faith.
