AP Exclusive: Reid got $1M in land sale

WASHINGTON - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.

The Nevada Democrat's deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He's never been charged with wrongdoing — except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.

"Complicated financial scandals have NO traction whatsoever..."

All depends on how things are phrased and what the buzz words are. Everybody understands "bribery," "tax evasion," "kick-backs," "lying to the government," "conspiracy to defraud," and the like.

The MSM has had to mention this news. It will be a lot more difficult for them to soft-pedal or bury it if a hue and cry is raised against them with buzz words like "cover-up" and "news black-out."

Wonder if this story will get 0.0005% of the coverage of the Foley story...

Not even. For starters, it involves buying and selling property as opposed to an old guy whacking his pee-pee. Which topic do you think captures the attention of the average American (think Jerry Springer fan)?

This story will be old news by tomorrow morning...

"Wow, you know what this sounds like? SCANDAL!! But I have a feeling it won't be making any headlines."

As someone from Vegas, let me assure everyone this is just the tip of the iceberg. This will eventually lead from Harry to the ongoing GSting scandal, which has netted politicians Dario Herrera, Erin Kenny, Mary Kincaid, Lance Malone and titty bar owner/mafioso Rizzolo.

Harry is the ultimate political manipulator, handpicking Dem politicians for positions. Kenny took big bribes from developers, some of the same one who worked with Reid. Developer Jim Rhodes got fined for improper campaign contributions to Reid and Herrera. Reid hand picked Kenny to run for Lt. Governor.

Trust me, there is lots more to see everyone. I got wind of a lot of this from a blog http://gsting.blogspot.com

It's a long read, but it ties Harry to lots of things. Oscar Goodman too.

Why does Reid get 1.1 million and William Jefferson, democrat, Louisiana, get only 98,000 dollars. The democrats really are racists. Jefferson's got a point.

The complex dealings allowed Reid to transfer ownership, legal liability and some tax consequences to Brown's company without public knowledge, but still collect a seven-figure payoff nearly three years later."

There's also an endangered tortoise living on that land. It WAS an environmentally protected area. Reid swung a few crooked deals. The tortoise now goes extinct, and Reid is rich, rich, rich!

Too bad Harry is not up for election til 2010. Maybe this could have brought him down if he were running this year. In case he has to resign, I hope Gibbons is elected governor so he can appoint a successor. I guess I am getting way ahead of myself though.

"Will Reid have the decency to resign like Mr. Foley?"

You just used "Reid" and "decency" in the same sentence. Report to the dean, you're on detention!

Does this mean Reids' seat in Nevada will go Republican. If we use the MSM logic, that will be the mantra.

"...Reid only gets a slap on the wrist for failing to report..."

According to the story posted at Drudge, he didn't just neglect to report. He lied to Congress and to the IRS.
