Well, it's virtually impossible for the United States to revert back to mostly one-income families...wouldn't you agree?
That was a trap. Originally a second income gave a family a boost. But labor is also a matter of supply and demand. Increasing the labor force put downward pressure on real wages (against the upward pressure from increasing per capita productivity). The end result is that the two incomes now amount to one and neither worker can quit without a substantial reduction in the standard of living.

My first point is that the cost of child care while a mother has a career outside the home is forbidding.
Taxes are confiscatory...to the point that child care and taxes clean out a lot of the 2nd family income...so abortion is chosen as the answer to maintain a standard of living.
I'm not figuring accidental pregnancies from 'hooking up'.
