Hot off the newswire, C|Net is reporting that Microsoft is working on an issue with the Microsoft Update platform that was delaying distribution of todays updates. Oddly enough, as of 10 minutes ago, my update worked just fine.
"Due to technical difficulties experienced on the Microsoft Update platform, security updates released today are not currently available via Microsoft Update, Automatic Updates, Windows Server Update Services or Windows Update v6," the software maker said.

Last time I did an update, it pulled in some small file that snoops around the hard drive touted as some thing that makes sure your copy is legit, mine is, but what else is it snooping around for? That's what bothers me. What also irked me was it was constantly trying to "phone home". I blocked it in my firewall.
I'm beginning to not trust Microsoft or it's update site.

To: Echo Talon
I didn't block it, I removed it. Completely from this system.

I have a number of machines to update at my job. I found that several times the update site gave me an error. I hit refresh and it was okay.
I just figured they had a couple of servers out or something.

I find it amazing the amount of bandwidth that MS must have! :D
To: Echo Talon
Yeah. Wasn't too hard to do. Downloade WGAKill or something like that, ran it, and it did everything for me.

To: Echo Talon
Exactly, then I go see what there is to update then return to FR without updateing :-)

That's what bothers me. What also irked me was it was constantly trying to "phone home". I blocked it in my firewall. That's the trouble with XP and the reason I won't run it. XP phone home, XP phone home, and what ever else it does. I'm sorry, but I don't care who wrote the software running on MY hardware; IT IS MY COMPUTER, not their's, and it will go where I want it to go, when I want it to go, and exchange the information that I want it to, and nothing more.
I'm beginning to not trust Microsoft or it's update site.
Welcome to a growing club.
