"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" will feature Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday - just one month before the Nov. 7 election - but not his Democratic opponent, state Treasurer Phil Angelides.
Angelides asked to appear on the show but had not received a response by Tuesday afternoon, said Steve Maviglio, a spokesman for Angelides' campaign.
A "Tonight Show" spokeswoman confirmed the Republican governor's appearance but did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
U.S. Rep Xavier Becerra, D-Los Angeles, filed a complaint on Angelides' behalf with the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday that accuses the "Tonight Show" of violating the equal time provision of the Federal Communications Act.
"Use of the broadcast spectrum is granted as a public trust," Becerra wrote. "It is not to be used to favor certain candidates."

BOO-HOO to Angelides!!!
The entire MSM is one long free campaign ad for the Dems, and now when Leno interviews THE GOVERNOR of CA, the Dems are all up in arms. I hope Leno won't buckle to them.
I thought this was a free country.
That's not how the Dems think -- they think they are free to do anything they want, but others have no rights whatsoever.
Leno does have a sense of humor, though:
"The equal time question came up during the 2003 gubernatorial recall election, when Schwarzenegger declared his candidacy on Leno's show in a surprise announcement.
Not long afterward, the "Tonight Show" invited all 135 recall candidates to appear, although they were hardly given equal time with Schwarzenegger. Instead, they were given 10 seconds to shout their ideas, all at the same time."
Put the daughters on to stump for Phil. I guarantee you the Tonight Show audience would rather watch them than him.
On a slightly different but related point...I just saw Al Gore doing a commercial for Prop 87. Dude is still the same pompous prat he's always been. What are they thinking?
We saw that ad in Eureka. My wife's comment was...oink oink!

Great pictures!
Here's another viewpoint:
While networks are anxious to increase audience base, why would a network risk the expense of litigation to provide a free, public venue for an opposition candidate. Why?
Why would a high profile, mainstream Democrat go out of his way to sabotage his party's principal political candidate? Why?
Something is wrong with this picture if this situation involved traditional, political rivalries. But it doesn't, does it?
Very simple. The Dems don't have a leg to stand on. Read the article.
I've heard of Schwarzenegger, but not Angelides. Since this is a nationwide broadcast, methinks this is why they included Arnold and not this other guy.
Indeed.
KISS: The traditional Democrat candidate is the Republican. The Democrat is an inept, fringe socalist.

Good point -- not to mention that Anglides is slightly more wooden and boring than Al Gore, and everyone would turn off Leno's broadcast in about 3 minutes, if there were still awake to work the remote, that is.
FYI -- Angelides is a far left socialist, the Dem candidate for governor of CA. God help CA, if he would get elected. Fortunately Arnold is way ahead, and hope it stays that way.
You said: "The Democrat is an inept, fringe socalist."

So how do you justify campaigning for the victory of someone you yourself characterize as "fringe socialist" while having the nerve to call yourself a conservative?
My understanding is that "equal time" means just that, equal time to what your opponent gets. Not necessarily at the same time as your opponent. And not necessarily with the same guaranteed audience as your opponent. Especially not if your opponent is a world-famous bodybuilder and action-movie actor on extended leave. All they'd need to do is give him time equivalent to what they're giving Arnold, sometime between now and the election and they'd be square. I'm not sure they're obligated to do even that. If he can't draw viewers like Arnold does...well, doom on you, Philly.
From another article, from the LA Times:
"Schwarzenegger's campaign referred calls to "The Tonight Show." Tracy St. Pierre, a press spokesperson for NBC Entertainment, said in a statement: "Consistent with 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno's' previous practice, NBC is following the news guidelines for interviewing a political candidate. Under the news guidelines, the scheduled appearance of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger ... is not subject to the FCC's equal time provisions."
Since news shows and entertainment often blur together, the "equal time" rule adopted by the FCC has been stretched. In general, broadcast entertainment programs must provide equal time if a left-out candidate requests it, but news programs are exempt on free-speech grounds."

Democrats will come and go, and like children, they will require constant attention, reeducation and punishment if necessary. Inept political hacks like Angelides are waiting around every corner during any election cycle. They are street urchins in California.
The sinister adult in this election is the Republican for he is the enemy within. He has the ability to destroy the CaGOP as a viable voice for conservatives within the state.
The CaGOP, although a minority party, has influence because moderates and conservatives have formed a common voice which can attract other moderates and independents. If Schwarzenegger is allowed to ply his liberal convictions, as the icon of the CaGOP, the party will loose it's effectiveness because the base will simply give up. No base, no seats in the legislature, no voice in government. 35% of California's active electorate disenfranchised by one liberal, masquerading as a traditional Republican.
"I'm not campaigning for any gubernatorial candidate. I'm warning conservatives about one candidate who represents the greatest danger to California."

Are you saying that Arnold is a bigger danger to CA, than Angelides?
