Commercial Controversy: Ad Stands Out
A different Paul Nelson advertisement is causing controversy.
A political analyst says he hasn't seen an ad like this one in 40 years. Paul Nelson released what he's calling a bold campaign ad against Congressman Ron Kind.
Kind calls it sleazy and despicable. The two are running against each other it the Third Congressional District. Geoff Peterson, a political science professor at UW-Eau Claire, says the ad is a desperate attempt by the Nelson campaign to get attention and free air time.
Parts of the ad say "Ron Kind pays for sex, but not for soldiers...Ron Kind has no trouble spending your money, he would just rather spend it on sex...Ron Kind spent your tax dollars to study something called the bisexual, trans-gendered, and two-spirited Aleutian Eskimos... whoever they are."
Peterson says, "The visuals do say these are the things that were voted on, the voice-over I think misrepresents what the vote and what the controversy was about."
Two TV stations have already refused to air Nelson's ad, but Peterson says that might not matter, because the controversy could give Nelson exactly what he wants: news air time.
A lawyer for the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association says those refusals may have been illegal. He says federal law requires reasonable access to federal candidates with ads that cannot be censored.
Nelson's campaign will air in Eau Claire beginning next Wednesday on CNBC, MSNBC, and the Weather Channel.

This commercial is so EXPLOSIVE that airing it could remove a LIBERAL from Congress!
In fact, one Main Stream Media outlet is actually REFUSING to air this commercial!
That's why we need your help to air this commercial as many times as humanly possible in all the remaining media outlets in these crucial days before the election

I viewed the ad, and I don't see anything wrong with it.

This is a re-hash of a Vernon Robinson ad.
Thanks for posting link. For some reason it ask me to either click on Share or Play Again but I wasn't able to see it in play mode at all.
Is this Nelson a longshot? I'm wondering at the strategy of going national with those full-bore controversial ads from the Vernon Robinson campaign, and this is definitely one of his.
