With Foley Scandal, GOP Faces Fate of 1994 Democrats(Marty Frost alert)
Fox News ^ | October 9, 2006 | Martin Frost

A few weeks ago I wrote a column comparing the 1994 election for the U.S. House of Representatives with this year’s election. I concluded the column by pointing out that history rarely repeats itself exactly. How wrong I was.

The current page scandal is an exact re-run of the scandal House Democrats faced in 1994 over the House Bank and the House postal system, except that the parties are reversed. This year it’s the Republicans who are on the ropes and the outcome should be the same…devastating results for the party in power.

Let’s review the bidding.

In 1994, then Speaker Tom Foley, D-Wash., was slow to react to growing scandals surrounding the operations of the House Bank and the House postal system. There were early warnings that things were amiss but it took Foley and the rest of the Democratic Leadership months to respond and by then the entire matter had spun out of control.

There is a common thread running though the 1994 scandal and today’s scandal: both involved matters that were easily understood by the public and both involved negligent behavior by the people in charge

One of these polls released over the weekend had a 16% Democrat Oversampling!!!!!

REALITY tells me that if Dems must OVERSAMPLE by incredibly huge numbers, the IMPRESSION of a Democrat landslide is thier only hope...

Over at Redstate.com the blogger said his Democratic friends in D.C told him that they wanted to release Foley closer to the election, but because of National Security the left was getting beat up in the polls. So they did their smear early, and are bracing for Rove's revenge.

Look on Labor day was way down in generics and then until the Foley smear were on top again. The winds will go back to the GOP

It'd be like predicting a football team will go 14-2 but refusing to say which teams they'll beat.

Everyone wants to blame Clinton or Bush for 9-11 instead of placing the blame where it belongs on the Islamo Fascists. Now the dominate media and the dems want to blame Hastert and the repubs for the Foley fiasco instead of blaming Foley for his selfish, out of control behavior.

Nothing will keep me from going to the polls on 11-7, voting for Joe Pitts, Rick Santorum and Lynn Swann. Poofters like Frost only wish they had any insight into the motivation of this conservative. Broken glass, baby!

"One must also understand that there was a shift to the GOP because they Democrat party had gotten so leftist and liberal, that people voted GOP. Scandals had only a little to do with it. The issues of that election were the Contract with America vs. gays in the military, raised taxes, Jocelyn Elders, and socialized medicene."

Not to mention the ridiculous "assault weapons ban," a lunatic Dim smackdown of the Bill of Rights!

If the GOP actually gained seats that would be the cherry on top.

too bad the Right wing media is helping the MSM. The traitors at Fox News are looking at another 25% dip in ratings if this goes bad.

I'd wondered why they would realease this so far out from an election.

In NJ there would never have been any dem elected to anything.

I read that article and it was very interesting. I don't believe the political wind ever shifted away from the GOP. I think it's a ploy to get the liberals out to vote and depress GOP turnout. If it was only this year I might believe that but they do it every election.

Rush just pointed out that the Wash Post is predicting the GOP will lose 7 to 30 seats in the House. 7 to 30?! That's like a weather forecast claiming the high will be between 45-75 degrees.

Either that...or they're trying to appear fair and balanced as they lead up to dropping a bombshell on the Democrats just prior to the election.  :)

Hell I can do the same thing. The GOP will win somewhere between 0 and 435 House seats.
