One word: HOMESCHOOL!
I never realized just what kind of power the national teachers association has until I saw John Stossel's report a few weeks ago, I was horrified. With each article or report that surfaces about what is passing for "education" in the public schools, I feel more and more deeply blessed by the opportunity and privilege to teach my children at home and in their homeschool programs/classes. I just wish more parents would unite to rebel against what the DOE and the teachers association are doing with the majority of this country's future leaders and workers - its frightening.
