I believe that lukewarm support was given to slavery. Not all who fought had slaves or believed slavery was right.

The support for the War of Northern Aggression was the support for States Rights. Those rights were lost.

actually the percentage of slave-ownership in BOTH the Union & CSA military forces was about the same (as was the percentage of slave owners, as a percentage of the northern/southern populations).

the percentage of slavers in BOTH regions was about 5-6%.ALSO, one of the "uncomfortable facts" about slavers was that there were MANY Black slave-owners & free Black slave overseers
