Fars, part of the problem is the United States has let the people of Iran down. Here's how: Iranians wanted the freedoms of a free society -- freedom from fear, freedom of speech, freedom to pursue happiness, free press, freedom from the midnight knock, and freedom from injustice. They looked to Iraq - and in Iraq, we failed. The freedoms that would have protected the people of Iraq are not possible when Islam is intertwined with governing.
When we took over Baghdad, the first elections should have dealt with ideas - a bill of rights. One at a time - up or down. "Do you want a free press?" Do you want the right to bear arms? How much power do you want your leaders to have... and bring the people in on creating a government. Instead our elites cut short the process - and the people knew it was going to be the same old same old - and not really worth fighting for... and the Iranians knew nothing would change. There would be new faces at the top - but they, the people, would still be at the bottom. And that's not worth fighting for...

Unlike in Iraq, Iranian Shi'ites don't enjoy killing their own kind so they import Arab and other Sunnis to be the Basiji "suppression" squads. Vicous beyond belief.

I am very disappointed in the response of the Iranian people. I'm beginning to think there is no possibility at all of them ever rising up and taking their freedom.
