If you grew up in the 1950s and 60s, and ever played cowboys, ........ you're damn lucky because you couldn't do it today without being un-politically correct, not to mention someone would probably call the cops on you for brandishing a gun.

Excellent article. I own a cap-and-ball .44 Navy Colt replica. Single-action is, well, cool. It also helps that my pistol will blow just about anything to flinders.

Cowboys, we used to play war, mostly "shot" Japanese. Today, a gun, children better not say that word.

I've a couple of .36s, and I enjoy them too. So much that I bot a Ruger .22 SAA for plinking, fun but a disappointment in the accuracy department.

I own a cap-and-ball .44 Navy Colt replica. Single-action is, well, coolBP indeed. I love my Pietta 1858 Remington NMAs. Very accurate pistols. And the R&D conversion cylinders for .45 LC cartridge are sweet as well. With the four I have and a shoulder stock, I could ride with Mosby's Rangers...as long as I had a horse to help with the load. ;>)

NEVER EVER NEVER EVER shoot a weapon off the back of a horse - unless of course you don't care about the horse AND you have an adrenalin deficit.

Thanks very much for posting...interesting article from a master in his field.
I've been enjoying and benefiting from Massad Ayoob's books since his essential 1980 work In the Gravest Extreme: The Role of the Firearm in Personal Protection
He's a true authority on firearms, not just another loud talker, and people can accept his statements with confidence.

My plinker, Single Six. Also have a .357 Blackhawk. Both are lots of fun to shoot.

Used to own a Inter Arms Virginia Dragoon 44. Based on the 1845 Colt. Stainless 8 3/8 barrel. Damn thing had tiny grips and would jump around in my hand. It also had a bad habit of jamming (yes a revolver that jammed). If the barrel was pointed up at a 45 degree angle the cartridges would not allow the cylinder to rotate. Got rid of that POS.

Looks to me like Texas Saddlery did the holster.
A much higher power created Raquel Welch.
