Not for long. Cannabis Prohibition began as a tax act. The propaganda machine was turned against pot smokers exactly the same as it's now being used against tobacco smokers. You said: "Clean up your reputation as being lazy slackers".

But to the extent that MJ legalization is a leftist issue, it certainly isn't a "small government" issue for them. It is a "big government" issue for them, just ask them about the taxes that poppa gov could rake in if MJ was legalized.

I have been to the Harvest Fest in Madison. What an embarrassment! I have long favored legalization from a liberty/sovereignty perspective. These jack asses are a bunch a crispy hippies droning on and on, "...and ya can make oil out of it, and ya can make paper, and it is good medicine, it is good for the birds, it makes good clothes and food..." blah blah blah. I hate hippies. They give pot a bad name. I am guessing the crowd was a mix of bald guys with pony tails and corduroy jackets, white guys with stinky dreadlocks wearing "Free Mumia" t-shirts, homeless people drenched in patchouli (the bathing alternative), and kids just looking to catch a buzz, many of whom will end up catching bad political philosophy instead. Hippies suck.

For what it is worth, I am with you that the Republicans suck for outlawing internet poker. But really, there ARE other subjects that don't involve internet poker. That is a great Goldwater quote, as so many are. But Goldwater is the perfect example of how you can't always get what you want. I mean, you refer to Goldwater as a "real Republican". But even Barry held views that were unpalatable to the majority of Republicans. He was an abortion supporter, he was in favor of gays in the military, and he thought Falwell, Robertson, and the religious right were a bunch of kooks.

Personally, I think Goldwater begat the Reagan Revolution and for that I am thankful. I even tend to agree with him in regards to the religious right at times. But be careful about branding any republican a "real" Republican.

You won't vote for Republicans any more because they outlawed your favorite game. Yet a Goldwater Republican that sees no problem with killing unborn babies would presumably get your vote. That must be some game you play...

That was just the last straw. Republicans no longer stand for limted government. Emminent Domain, Commerce Clause, Habeas Corpus...Constitutional liberties lost not to communists, muslims or Democrats, but to Republicans.

Not me my friend. While I am against abortion on philisophical grounds, I am all for porn and gambling being legal. Beyond that, even, I am consistent in that I am also in favor of legalizing heroin, prostitution, machine guns and profiteering of all stripes.

Republicans have never stood for limited government except in campaign speeches. That is why I don't vote for Republicans - I vote against Democrats. Do I love the choices? Hell no! It is like choosing between getting your nose punched or your balls stomped. This November I will again choose the punch in the nose. Not because I like to get punched in the nose, but because my balls are still too damned important to me.

I hear what you're saying, shempy. I've spent most of my life voting for the lesser evil. I think if the Republicans lose the majority in November it will give the libertarians in the party a chance to be in position to make changes when the economy crashes...but, I could be wrong.
