Here's the thing: let's imagine that we HAD gotten into negotiations with North Korea afte they announced that they had reneged on their deal with Clinton. How would that have played out?

North Korea would have learned that lying in negotiations with the USA carries no penalty. Thus, they would have gone along the same course as we see today, only MORE confidently and probably quicker.

Charles Krauthammer pointed out that their desire for nuclear weapons is NOT because they want to get our attention, nor to get aid, nor any other reason. They want the bomb in order to HAVE it, to be a player, and to stay in power. NO negotiations will sway them.
