To: US Navy guy
Um, no thanks, I think I'd rather develop an infection and have my arm amputated instead.

Aren't live maggots used to help clean large wounds?

Um, no thanks, I think I'd rather develop an infection and have my arm amputated instead. You obviously haven't met many amputees.when maggots and leeches are used in medicine, the ones used are specifically bred in labs...so they're not "dirty".

Yup. Seems they selectively chew on infected/dead flesh rather than healthy flesh.
Bleah. Still, it apparently work. Nonetheless... bleah.

ain't nothing that we humans have come up with that can beat leeches'enzymes for restoring circulation and maggot's discretionary eating for removing dead tissue while leaving the healthy alone! I, for one, think it's kind of a "duh" to use organisms very well suited to such tasks instead of cruder artificial methods

How the heck do they get liberals to submit the juice, is what I want to know... Bill "The Impeached" Xlinton is a liberal. And a maggot. He never seemed to have any trouble "submitting" his "juice" ... so to speak.

I can understand why the typical "civilian" would find the use of maggots and leeches in medicine to be creepy but,as I said earlier,Dr Upton...a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and internationally known...has used them in the past.
