For some reason, this always brings to mind the Bugs Bunny version of events where Columbus and King Ferdinand speak with stereotypic Italian and Mexican accents, respectively, and Queen Isabella says, in Mae West's voice, "Oh, Chris ... if you discover the New World, I'll give you my jewels."
...then came the moment when Bugs thought he had hit land first, when he hears Columbus say from on top of the rock,
"Hey, Bugsa Bunny...! WHOOZA discover da America!?"
Anyway, I remember the 1992 protests here in Columbia, SC. Really goofy people. BTW, who was the state assemblyman that year who denounced Columbus, denounced English as an imperialistic language, and so he delivered the rest of his address....in SPANISH!!
I remember Flip Wilson's version where Queen Isabella sounds alot like Geraldine and is very happy that "Chris gonna find Ray Charles."
