Thanks, Jersey. The president is late, which is highly unusual for him.

Will the UN "deplore" or "condemn?" Will it remain "seized" with the issues? The world trembles in anticipation.

I still think we might do something about Iran, at least I hold out hope. NK is like a porcupine. We could kill it, but we'd get some quills and it would hurt like hell. There's an off chance they'd do something stupid and attack somebody, probably SK (if they do I say let SK deal with it.) With Iran we have yet another pretender greedily eyeing the holy grail of dominance over the Middle East, along with a generous helping of jew hatred and covetousness over Iraq. Their sabre rattling is far more likely to be leading up to something than NK, imo.

OTOH, who knows what the NKs are likely to feed the Iranians. It could all be connected, and this could be but another step down the slippery path leading to the coming conflagration.

China said on Monday it firmly opposed North Korea's nuclear test, denouncing it as "brazen" in unusually strong language, and demanded Pyongyang stop any action that could worsen the situation.

China also urged North Korea to return to six-party talks it has hosted aimed at dismantling the North's nuclear programmes. The talks, which have been stalled for nearly a year, also group South Korea, Japan, the United States and Russia.

Yep, that's what we need.....more talking. /s

There's stories of additional activity at a different site -- suspicion is that they may try another test today. Prolly getting the most up-to-date briefing. This is big stuff.

"....we will now have a nuclear North Korea (and soon Iran)"

We've had a nuclear N. Korea all along, not "now". I heard this twice on the radio driving in to work. "N. Korea has now gone nuclear" and "N. Korea has now joined the club of nuclear powers". Is this dem talking points? As if to say that under the Bush watch N. Korea has gone nuclear. Um, whose fault was it to begin with, let's try Clinton. Thank you.

Very unusual that Bush is late. Doesn't make me feel good but think they want the very latest input from other nations.

Japan is hanging strong from what I've read but I don't know what China's response has been. I just haven't been able to keep up with the news lately and have so many questions but will try and read after the speech and try to figure out what's going on.
