but then Taiwan and S. Korea will want them too. S. Korea can do it probably now. Taiwan could if they wanted.

I suspect Taiwan has plenty of them, and wouldn't be at all surprised if SK does too. There's far too much incentive for both countries to have them, for it to be otherwise. Their ace in the hole, however, is to keep their existence a secret -- so I suspect we won't hear about them.

Threatening to bring them to the UN Security council is basically giving NK a free pass. I really hoped Pres Bush would announce something more forceful... naval blockade, preemptive strike on nuclear facilities. Something. Otherwise this loon just gets away with a blatant act of war, IMO.

I think I'll just stick with the definition used in my tagline.

Crisis doesn't build character, it reveals it.

I think it would be helpful if you distinguish your editorial remarks from the remarks you are transcribing of the President's.

In fairness, it wasn't all diplo-babble. The President did talk about America keeping its security commitments to S. Korea, which is an implied threat of force.

I had no problem distinguishing Peach's editorial remarks from Peach's transcription.

Nice. I like that one.

He didn't speak long.... Didn't even confirm that a nuke had been exploded.

He told S.Korea and Japan that we'd keep our "full" commitments to them. I assume he means that we'll have nukes to fight nukes. I also got the sense that he wasn't opposed to preemption.

Bottom line: little said; the Pres. wasn't pleased.

I think the President just laid out the plan for dealing with NK.

Up until now, North Korea merely had a missile program. Now they have a nuclear capable missile program, and their test sites might have just been targeted. It would make perfect sense to take out every missile making facility in the North, immediately.

Let's see where the UNSC goes, and if they waver one bit, if there is any sign of obstruction from China, or Russia, or anyone, I would look for the President to act decicively, and with overwhelming force against the NK missile sites, and with the assistance of South Korea and the Japanese.

Up until now, Kim Jong Il never actually stepped over the line to confirm his country has nuclear weapons. If this proves to really be a nuke test, the gloves will come off. If South Korea is smart, they will start mobilizing troops and calling up reserves to reinforce the DMZ...

According to the Dems. This is all Bush's fault because he has such weak foreign policy.

I'm tired of trying to figure out who's side he's going to take on which day and on which issue.
