Dear Fellow Conservatives:
Please find enclosed mailing addresses for a number of GOP candidates in U.S. Senate and House races. I would urge you to pick one or two candidates and send them your most generous financial contributions (you should include your name, occupation and employer). There are only 30 days until the Nov. 7 election
Whether it is about the war in Iraq (from which the Democrats would cut and run), a $2.4 trillion tax increase, partial birth abortion, border security, ballistic missile defense, the war on terrorism or even spending, I think the nation is best served having more conservatives in office.
We are defending five U.S. Senate seats where there are extremely close races -- and these are seats we need to win (Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania, Jim Talent in Missouri, Conrad Burns in Montana, Mike DeWine in Ohio and Bob Corker, seeking to replace Bill Frist, in Tennessee). PLEASE HELP THESE CANDIDATES. There are some possible pick-up opportunities (Michael Steele in Maryland, Mike Bouchard in Michigan, Mike McGavick in Washington and Mark Kennedy in Minnesota). I have sent two contributions each to Michael Steele and Mark Kennedy, as well as one to my local congressman, Rep. Richard Pombo. I also plan to send a check to Jim Talent in Missouri. I have included addresses for several House races, several statewide California races and for a pro-life organization that will be helping support Proposition 85, Tom McClintock, Tony Strickland and Chuck Poochigian.
If we can hold the House and Senate, there is a chance that a dream I hold could come true. If either Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens or Ruth Ginsberg were to resign in the next two years (with a GOP Senate), I would love to see President Bush nominate Janice Rogers Brown (who now serves on the D.C. Court of Appeals and is the African-American daughter of share croppers) to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Democrats would literally freak...and have to oppose an African-American woman. This would be a beautiful day! Please send financial donations, pray and work for these candidates to win.

POLLS DATED AUG. 9 AND AUG. 10, 2006: Following a primary in which he cruised to an easy victory, Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Michael Bouchard has closed in on Debbie Stabenow's lead in two recent polls. The first, a Rasmussen Reports poll, has Bouchard trailing Stabenow 49%-44%. The second poll, conducted by SurveyUSA, shows Stabenow up by 7 points, 48%-41%. What was once considered a "safe" seat for Democrats is, based on these numbers, narrowing.
In case you missed this article from The Washington Times...
The Washington Times 9.29.06 Michigan woes fuel GOP election hopes By Charles Hurt
LINCOLN PARK, Mich. -- The fever among voters to throw incumbents out of office -- furiously stoked by Democrats in Washington -- might backfire in this state, where Republicans are riding a surge of voter discontent.
With Democrats holding both Senate seats and the governor's mansion, Michigan is suffering the worst economy of any state in the nation. The state's unemployment rate is nearly twice the national average of 4.7 percent, and the auto industry is losing jobs by the tens of thousands. A recent job fair offering factory work for $10 an hour with no benefits drew 4,000 applicants.
"They're Democrats, but they want jobs," John Katinsky said of his neighbors in this hard-hit town downriver from Detroit.
Much of the discontent is being directed at Sen. Debbie Stabenow, the first-term senator who is trying to fend off a challenge from Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
"Only one state in America has lost jobs for three straight years and that's Michigan," Mr. Bouchard says. "That needs to change, and it's going to change by starting with the leadership."
Mrs. Stabenow's primary line of attack on Mr. Bouchard is linking him to President Bush, who lost the state in the 2000 and 2004 elections, though by relatively small margins.
"The people of Michigan have a clear choice in this election between a senator who is fighting hard for them and delivering real results and someone who insists on endorsing the failed and tired policies of the Bush administration even as they continue to cost us jobs and threaten our Michigan way of life," Stabenow campaign spokesman Brent Colburn said.
Not a 'nice'-lady race
Mr. Bouchard often tells voters on the campaign trail that Mrs. Stabenow is a "nice" lady but that they're not running in a nice-lady contest. He then rattles off reasons why he thinks she should be replaced.
He tells people that Mrs. Stabenow voted to grant Social Security benefits to illegal aliens, is one of the biggest pork-barrel spenders in Washington and has authored only one successful bill in Congress: a law to rename a federal building in Detroit.
Last month, Mr. Bouchard toured the state in a moving van to highlight the exodus of Michigan residents leaving the state in search of jobs. The flight is so bad, Mr. Bouchard said in an interview with The Washington Times, that when his neighbors put their house on the market, they had to wait more than a week before a "for sale" sign was available.
On his tour, he promised to curb federal spending, reduce "regulatory burdens" on small businesses and make tax cuts permanent.
Mrs. Stabenow, he says, has spent six years in Washington with little to show for it. She has authored 68 bills, according to records kept by the Library of Congress, and only one has been approved by the Senate. The bill, S.1285, renamed a building in Detroit the "Rosa Parks Federal Building" in honor of the civil rights activist.
During that same period, she also has written 68 amendments, 19 of which were adopted by her colleagues.
Those figures do not accurately reflect how hard she is working on behalf of her state, Mrs. Stabenow's campaign says.
She has "set the standard for constituent service," fought for lower health care costs and wrote the ban on drilling for oil in the Great Lakes, according to the campaign. In addition, she has supported tax cuts for businesses that create jobs in the United States and "helped lead the delegation effort" to secure more federal transportation dollars for Michigan roads.
A lackluster record?
Despite her successes, even Mrs. Stabenow's staunchest supporters are somewhat at a loss to name her accomplishments as a U.S. senator.
A survey by The Washington Times of delegates who attended the state Democratic convention in Detroit in August found no one who could list any specific successes. Larry Lewis of Detroit said, "She's done an outstanding job."
Asked to name any accomplishments, Mr. Lewis replied: "I don't have her record in front of me. I couldn't go over it verbatim."
Thelma Murrell of Southgate said: "Off the top of my head, I can't name them. But she does a great deal of things for us. It's not just caring; she really does help."
Carol Poenisch of Northville couldn't name any legislative victories for Mrs. Stabenow, but applauded her efforts to stop Canadian trucks from hauling tons of garbage across the border and dumping it in U.S. landfills. It's an issue that has dogged Michigan politicians for years.
Just last month, Mrs. Stabenow issued a press release boasting that she and other Democrats in the state had reached a deal with Canadian officials "to stop shipments of municipal solid waste to Michigan over the next four years."
But Canada's environment ministry officials weren't losing much sleep over the deal they cut with Mrs. Stabenow. They told local reporters that it does nothing to curb industrial and commercial waste, which makes up more than half of the 4 million metric tons of Canadian trash hauled into Michigan each year.

The Associated Press 10.7.06 Law enforcement background molds Bouchard's approach By Tim Martin
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A few hours after the second plane hit the World Trade Center in New York City, Mike Bouchard and his Oakland County Sheriff's Department - some 500 miles away - helped gather bottled water and other supplies to take to the disaster site.
Within three days, Bouchard was digging through the rubble with the FBI in search of a "black box" from a hijacked airplane used in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Eerie quiet would descend on the site when rescuers thought they might hear a survivor. The air was so polluted and the smell so bad that Bouchard wiped his nose and discovered it was bleeding.
Bouchard said the attacks and the threat of terrorism are a call to action for his generation and a major reason he decided to run for the U.S. Senate.
"My generation has a whole new threat that we have to address in a forceful way," said Bouchard, a 20-year veteran of law enforcement and a former state lawmaker. "I don't want my kids to have to face it. It's the same way my parents felt about World War II. They wanted to deal with it so they could have peace for their kids."
The Republican sheriff of Michigan's second-largest county faces Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow in the November election. Other candidates on the ballot are Leonard Schwartz of the Libertarian Party, David Sole of the Green Party and Dennis FitzSimons of the U.S. Taxpayers Party.
Bouchard, who also helped keep order in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, has campaigned heavily on homeland security and disaster response issues. He said the Senate needs someone with practical experience in law enforcement and public safety.
The former small businessman also has made Michigan's sluggish economy an issue, at one point campaigning out of a U-Haul moving van to represent people leaving the state in search of jobs.
Democrats say Bouchard would represent a continuation of what they consider the failed policies of Republican President Bush. But Bouchard says he works in a bipartisan fashion and isn't afraid to stray from the party line, and he differs with Bush on some issues related to immigration and No Child Left Behind.
The 50-year-old Birmingham resident was a full-time law enforcement officer before graduating Michigan State University in 1979. On a recent campaign stop at his alma mater, he mixed talk about border security and the economy with chat about Spartan football.
Wearing a green Michigan State golf shirt, Bouchard looked at home among the tailgaters preparing for a game against rival Notre Dame. He soon stumbled into friendly territory - a tailgate party decorated with a banner for Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos, who's challenging incumbent Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm in November.

When I first entered the race for United States Senate, Democrat Maria Cantwell had a 20-point lead over me. We've closed that gap and the latest Rasmussen Reports poll shows that I'm within 4 points of her. Just last week, The National Journal's Chuck Todd said he, "can't imagine ever viewing any other Democratic incumbent as more vulnerable than Cantwell."
The Washington Times 8.16.06 GOP sees hope for Cantwell seat By Christina Bellantoni
Republicans are preparing for bruising midterm elections, but they see a bright spot on the electoral map in Washington, where Sen. Maria Cantwell is considered one of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents. The freshman senator is receiving criticism from the left and right and faces a primary challenge on Sept. 19. Republican opponent Mike McGavick is a wealthy businessman who can fund most of his campaign, but party faithful also are banking on strong grass-roots support. Many state Republicans are still angry about the 2004 gubernatorial race, which their candidate, Dino Rossi, lost by fewer than 200 votes after two recounts and a court battle. "I think Washington Republicans felt ripped off when they lost their governor's race as it finished up last time," said Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, New York Republican and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. "That gives us some added bonus." Mr. Reynolds said he has seen intense voter interest in Miss Cantwell's seat and some House seats. Miss Cantwell, 47, leads Mr. McGavick in all statewide polls, but by no more than five percentage points and with many voters still undecided.

Two words:
NATIONAL SECURITY
You're right. That's why we need to make sure our candidates have the money they need.
Let's do it FReepers!
Two more words: SUPREME COURT
If the DemonRats take the Senate, forget about any more conservative SCOTUS appointments.
Thanks so much for posting this- you are so right two words National Security. Also, FReepers talk to eachother but we must get out side and work the towns and cities where we live!
Support these people FReepers.
The thing is, does the GOP deserve it? I think a loss will be better in the long-run. There are no more Conservatives in the GOP anymore.
Oh come on. No conservatives in the GOP. I can name dozens -- What about the two senators from Oklahoma (Coburn and Inhofe)? What about Duncan Hunter, chair of the House Armed Services Committee? What about Ron Paul? What about my congressman, Richard Pombo? Yes, the GOP could do better -- and you could be sending money to the Club for Growth to assist conservative candidates. I've sent five checks so far with my middle-class income -- and I'm going to send more. You are so wrong. You should read the first three graphs of my post. THERE ARE FOUR WORDS THAT SAY IT ALL -- NATIONAL SECURITY & SUPREME COURT. If that doesn't move you, nothing will or can. All the best.
Damned tired of holding my nose...
It's hard to sell a Pig with Lipstick these days but the Pig without lipstick is easy to pass on.
I think that while I am on the subject, I will provide lipstick for the lip service that I have received in the recent past, seems that whatever power I have is equally ineffective to either Party since a Politician is a Liar no matter what Party spawned them.

I'd rather donate to FREE REPUBLIC and I will again.
They are a sure winner no matter how the elections turn out.
"I'd rather donate to FREE REPUBLIC and I will again.
They are a sure winner no matter how the elections turn out."
So you'll have some place to come and gripe for the next two years because you and others of your ilk neglected to support and to vote for Republicans this fall.
We could have a chance to stack the Supreme Court with good solid conservative jurists before Bush leaves office, but you won't get off your hind end and help.
Shame on you.
You've been watching too much TV - but the worst part, you are mimicking them!
"The thing is, does the GOP deserve it? I think a loss will be better in the long-run. There are no more Conservatives in the GOP anymore."
But those Democrats trying to take Congress will bring you wealth, happiness, and security. Sure.
You, sir, are an idiot.
BUMP!
Then enjoy watching the Bush Impeachment hearings, cuz that's what's going to be on 24-7.
Shame on me?
Shame on you for the apathy a lot of people have had on open borders, out of control spending, wrist slaps on the like sof the Sandy Burglars, Dubia ports,
not making tax cuts permanent etc.
I'd rather donate to FREE REPUBLIC.... they are sure winners.
