They are devoted to their family.
They tend to be devout Christians.
Theyl don't ALL have a strong work ethic, they are not all devoted to their families, and I have not noted any tendency to be any more devout Christians than many Americans.
Please reread my post and cite where I said anyone needed to be a perfect Christian, and I also don't believe I said anything about recognizing them as brothers or sisters in Christ. However, if any brother or sister in Christ that I knew was breaking the law, it would be my obligation to tell them that what they were doing was wrong. You do know that that is in the Bible, don't you?
I strongly resent your assertion that I am comparing myself as a Christian to anyone. I have to assume that if you had a good arguement you wouldn't have to twist what I said.

I"m pretty sure I didn't even comment on that part of your post. Why do you think high fertility in this group is a plus?

Thanks .. good post
My family (the ones who weren't here when Columbus got here) came either before the Revolution, or about a generation before the war for TX independence. I am all about immmigration, I am just tired of the "we are a nation of immigrants" angle that people use to suggest that those of us who want our porous border tightened and illegal aliens not given amnesty are against immigration or are somehow too stupid to understand American history.
I wasn't really pointing at you, and I'm sorry if I came off that way. :)

Can't this man just STFU. Is he nuts, here it is 4 weeks till the election and republicans everywhere are trying to forget that their president is the greatest proponent of illegal aliens and he opens his mouth again to remind us.
I'm not for kicking out massive amounts of latinos but the thought of the millions in here becoming voters scares me to death.
My attitude toward granting citizenship to immigrants is to continue the policy of setting annual limits for each country and not letting disproportionate numbers of people in from any country. Mexico should get no more than, say, Nigeria.
I think it could be a plus to the GOP if these people were eventually naturalized and showed the same voting trend as Mexican-Americans have, ie. 35% voted Reagan in 1984, 43% vote GOP now. Compares favorably to all other ethnic "minority" groups in the US.
Since their abortion rate is much lower than other ethnic groups, their birth rate is even higher than their fertility rate (85 births/1,000 among Latinas -- 94 births/1,000 among teenaged latinas). To survive and prosper, the GOP must think about voting trends and population trends among groups that show some affinity for their platform and have a high birth rate.
Hispanics are the only group that fill the bill here.
The downside would include things like low voter turn-out relative to other groups and also higher rate of sexually transmitted disease (which can shorten their lives). But these unfortunate statistics are largely attributable to the "barrio" type hispanics. If more of them become mainstream, like their upwardly mobile, professional and entrepreneurial counterparts (the "suburban" Hispanics, if you will) all that can change for the better and there is cause for some optimism here.
In my previous post, "...their birth rate is even higher than their fertility rate" should read, "their birth rate is high still than that of any other ethnic group."
You are such an optimist! ;)
