Tens of thousands of people have marched through the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, in support of the main opposition candidate, Manuel Rosales. Mr Rosales will face President Hugo Chavez in December's presidential poll.

The march, which filled the main avenues of the city centre, was the biggest opposition rally Venezuela has seen since early 2004.

Then, protesters made an unsuccessful bid to oust Mr Chavez from power in a recall referendum.

Chance to unite

Young and old took to the streets to throw their weight behind the campaign of Mr Rosales, a middle-class Social Democrat who governs the state of Zulia, on the Colombian border.

Many claimed that they were seeking liberty and democracy and that made Mr Rosales their only option:

Looks like the crowd wraps all the way around out of view in the background, and goes at least some distance closer to the camera and to the right. Gotta be a hundred thousand people.

Those folks (and I agree they appear to be over a hundred thousand) better start "B.L.O.A.T"ing Big Time! It's going to be a bitter, bloody civil war down there...

That pig chavez is importing/stockpiling mucho bang bang down that way...

Given the other picture looking the other way, and now adding this pic...I believe there were several hundred thousand people there, maybe close to a million even.

Amen to that...I just wonder how many firearms though are in the hands of the people down there. I have a sister-in-law from down there and my brother, who is fluent in spanish, has been down there several times. She has no plans of ever living there again...and as many as possible, who have the means, are getting out.

Chavez is a marxist and the friend of tyrants. He is buying the peasant vote...but I am arfraid they have no idea how he is, and intends, to use them.
