John, same thing happened in a little place called Vietnam.

Fact was, the Vietnamese communists were brutal, sadistic, and ruthless. They were not the equivalent of the Massachusetts minutemen trying to keep King George from their cannons. But that is how the then DBM and leftists portrayed it. Hell, even I believed so back then.

The Vietnamese could still be free today if we had stuck it out. The war was fought with one eye on China and the USSR to avoid escalation like happened in Korea, which, in hindsight, was wrong. Still every battle we fought, we won. The Vietnamzation process started by Nixon was the right thing, and the South Vietnamese should have easily defeated the North's late 1974/early 1975 offensive had we supplied them with the weapons they asked for, let alone the treaty ONLIGATION we had with them to begin air campaigns against the North if they committed forces again.

The Democrats in Congress cut all funds and weapons to the South, the media smiled, and the Left got a complete victory.

Someday I hope the true story is told, but until then, I'll be damned if I'll stand back and let them do to Iraq and Iraqis what they did to Vietnam. Bastards!

Above should read OBLIGATION.

Part of the 1973 Paris Peace Treaty with the Communists and our South Vietnamese ally was we'd come back into the fight if they militarily attacked the South again.

We let that treaty blow away in the wind.

Good for you....I feel the same way...my husband is a Viet Vet...and although he is less interested in politics than I am....we both agree that somehow the HISTORY and lesson of the Vietnam War and it's ENDING..has to be told over and over..

Even though my son, who is 27 has a Viet Vet father..he still KNOWS nothing..and was going to vote for Kerry last time...until I sat him down and told him the truth.

Unfortunately, the only Vietnam Vets that are getting any airtime are the Murtha, Kerry, Webb, group!!!

This is why I've wanted to cry out every time someone on our side has said "Iraq is not Vietnam."  That's the wrong formulation.  It should be "we won't allow the traitors in the Democrat party to betray these people and our country the way they did in Vietnam!"

They don't know the meaning of "Swiftboating" if we can get that argument started.  There's 35 years of suppressed rage at them built up among millions of people.  Jane Fonda and John Kerry better have a place to hide if we ever get that going as the question.  And that doesn't even speak of the Vietnamese, Cambodians and others who have real grievances against them.
