Anna Politkovskaya also entered the Dubrovka theater in Moscow during the hostage situation in October of 2002, delivering food and beverages to the hostages. She also assisted several of the former hostages from there, during their days in court.
One of the former theater hostages, freeper 'Svni', was to fly to Moscow next week to meet with Anya, to discuss the upcoming anniversary of the theater tragedy.
Freeper
'Svni' has several Novaya Gazeta articles on her home page by Anna Politkovskaya.
Several years ago, back when President Bush was looking into Putin's eyes and finding a friend there, Anna Politkovskaya wrote an insulting article about the Bush-Putin meeting, called "Cowboy Friends". That turned me off to her, but recent history has proven her and 'Svni' correct about Putin and Russia.
As a peace offering, when 'Svni' was travelling to Moscow to see Anna Politkovskaya last year, I sent her off with an expensive desk set from the US Supreme Court gift shop. 'Svni' reported that at first Anya wanted nothing of the sort, but once the box was opened, she said "Oy! Hochu!" (I want it!).
The world will be a little emptier without Anna Politkovskaya.

Terrible! I keep hearing disturbing news from Russia and hoping it's just some rogue elements and throwbacks. That is beginning to sound naive.

An unknown man in dark clothing shot her with a pistol.

You did good work.

While I disagreed with her opinion of Iraq and Bush, Politkovskaya was a brilliant journalist, and a brave one. Her actions during the theater hostage took guts, and had she not been poisoned, she may have been able to solve Beslan with little or no violence.
I suppose this should be a warning to anyone who dares question Tsar Putin...

The fingers of the Russian government reach around the world--even to the USA.
Vladimir Romanov wrote "Jewish Attacks on Russian Parliamentarians Reveal Their Own Hypocrisies" for David Duke's Web site. In it, he wrote, "One of the leading Jewish supremacist-controlled publications in Russia is called MosNews."
Have you tried posting here from that publication?

"An unknown man in dark clothing shot her with a pistol.
A police source reported to Interfax that a neighbor of the journalist found her body in the elevator. Police also found a discarded Makarov pistol and four empty cartridges."
...could have been a police evidence room throwaway or an organized crime hiring--or both.

I wonder if she was recently working on a corruption story and if one of her sources was Andrei Koslov.
Mr. Koslov was the first deputy chairman of the Russian Central bank. He was murderd in Moscow on September 14th. He had known he was in danger for a long time because he attacked money laundering and shady financial practices by strong men in and out of government. Maybe "they" got to his records after his murder and found out who all he had been talking to. Maybe he was working with her because he thought the news exposure of what he had been uncovering would protect him, by identifying his enemies.
Just speculating today.

She was a well known terrorist supporter. I can easily see how she made many enemies in her country for her pro-terrorist agenda. Even if they find the killer, I doubt any jury in Russia would convict no matter the evidence. She makes Michael Moore seem like a super patriot.

A while back I was at Barnes a & Nobel and I saw this blue book 'Putin's Russia.' I picked it up and thumbed through it and it was plain to see that Russia was going back into darkness. I was surprised that the woman who wrote the book was able to do so and still be free or still be in Russia.
It looks like I don't have to be surprised anymore.
Here is the last paragraph of a review by Robert Chandler on Ann's book 'Putin's Russia'
"There are at least two good reasons for buying this book. One is that Politkovskaya only just survived a recent attempt on her life by the security services. Unless there is whole-hearted support for her from Western journalists, politicians and the general public, she is likely to be assassinated. The other is that the cataclysm that has engulfed Russia concerns us all; today's depraved and defeated Russia may be a greater danger to the world than the 'evil empire' of the past."
