The problem isn't with the structure of the trial system, the problem is with the sentencing of the first time offender. Perhaps more work should be done to strengthen sentencing for the crime of rape and especially rape of a minor child. The sentences for these crimes have not been very harsh.
Note that this man was not being held for rape of a child. He was being held for indecent exposure and possession of porn and alcohol in his vehicle. He should have been afforded a fair trial and should have a reasonable expectation of safety while incarcerated.

I agree the man referenced in the article that started this thread deserved a trial. I am talking about an animal who was previously convicted, should never have been released, got a low bail on a new charge, and absolutely/positively committed 4 murders, raped two children, and got caught with the kidnapped little girl.
Different circumstances but maybe my frustration with this subject is getting the best of me.
