Ignore it and say your spam filter got it.
After reading the article about the outing of gay Republicans by angry liberal gays, it smacks of blackmail - it also sounds earily familiar. The scandal of the gay priests who preyed on teenage boys (especially between the years 1960-1985), and who were allowed to be remain under the radar by either immoral or incompetant bishops, was similar in nature. Some of the bishops had hidden their "gayness" and had been promoted to leadership positions in the hierarchy. Then, younger gay priests knew about earlier transgressions by these bishops, and were blackmailing them into silence and into not disciplining them. Such was the case of Bishop Rembert Weakland of Milwaukee. His tenure in Milwaukee was a scandal not only for his coddleing of gay priests, but for his outrageous refusal to speak out against abortion and other evils. He was a rabid liberal who never found anything wrong with liberal Democrats.
So, that's what's going on here. Blackmail - pure and simple. If they are so proud of being gay, than why do they resort to such tactics????
This is not legal advice but friendly 'two cents' advice. Until he gets legal advice, keep the letter up and take down the info regarding Edmund in the interim. Also, thank you Wild Bill!

It's remarkable that Foley missed the original memo about e-mail privacy. Oliver North's e-mail got him in trouble a full decade before most people had their first inbox. Subsequently, public servants must already know that every message they send and receive is public record.
Everything sent or received on a government-owned system can come to light as part of a Freedom of Information Act request. And the messages they send on alternate systems are of public interest. This information needs to be drilled into public servants, starting at the lowest level.
