Budget Deficit Drops to $250 Billion
AP ^ | October 6, 2006 | ANDREW TAYLOR

Posted on 10/06/2006 10:19:40 AM PDT by West Coast Conservative

The federal budget estimate for the fiscal year just completed dropped to $250 billion, congressional estimators said Friday, as the economy continues to fuel impressive tax revenues.

The Congressional Budget Office's latest estimate is $10 billion below CBO predictions issued in August and well below a July White House prediction of $296 billion.

The improving deficit picture _ Bush predicted a $423 billion deficit in his February budget _ has been driven by better-than-expected tax receipts, especially from corporate profits, CBO said.

Let's start by repealing the prescription drug program, that'll not only save $250,000,000,000/year but will free up a lot more dollars for defense, where they are actually needed, and where the expense is actually Constitutional.

Often it seems that the libertarians are the only ones who notice, or care. Sad state of affairs, these days.

"The budget deficit disappeared in the late 1990s because the Republican Congress put in controls on spending. Clinton had nothing to do with it."

That is exactly what I remember. And that is, at the end of the Clinton years there was a huge budget deficit that was later inherited by Bush. But someone mentioned in this thread that at the end there was a surplus. So, I'll stick with what I remember: at the end of the Clinto years there was a deficit. That's what I remember and I'm sticking with it now.

Nobody cars because Tom Foley is out of the Republican party.

Gerry Studds is still in the Democrat party. So is Mel Reynolds. And Barney Frank, whose boyfriend apparently ran a gay escort service from Barney's basement.

Remind me again why we worked to get the Republican party in control of the White House and Congress?

So you have not seen;

Your last breath gurgle out of you while you lie in the street as the VX runs it's course through your body.

Your children expelled from school for saying a blessing before they eat.

Your son buggered by a 55 year old Eagle Scout.

Your calculater just realized you can't retire until you're 117 years old.

I hope that helps.

"President Bush will be judged as a leader who kept the economy going and eventually thriving under fierce attacks from without and within, all the while waging a war against an evil enemy, in spite of having an opposition party working against him in every possible way.

A lesser man would have folded long ago...."

according the dems, we did have a surplus when BJ was in office, which of course is NONSENSE.

In 1998-early 1999, there was a projected surplus, if the same bubble that had CNBC screaming "NEW ECONOMY!!" as a way to justify bobsbaitshop.com going from a ice chest in a vacant lot to a $100 million stalwart of industry on the OTC, continued to grow at the same pace as the momo players were banking on us believing.

"Woudn't the budget be balanced if we dropeed the sr. citizens drug program we just passed 2 years ago?"

Yes that is so. We should not cheer that budget is 250 billion dollars deficit - that is like finding a train wreck the first survivor. Do not give up. We should cheer when budget is in zero balance. Nonsense for 2% GDP when it is spending money that does not exist! Like saying by a robber that the first victim was so rich, he will not have to rob anyone else until tomorrow! Thief is thief!

They were so worried about having all the excess money around attracting thieves and other politicians that they became desperate for ways to spend it.

This sounds like the beginning of a problem ...

When all is said and done, it will 'sink in' to a whole lot of people who don't admit it more, that President Bush is the real thing......a fine man, and a strong leader.

Ohio Fan,

When he exits the stage in 2 years or so I think he will go to Texas and work on the his ranch and do some civic minded things, but for all intensive purpose he will remain relatively quiet like Presidents of old did.

Post that phase, people will over the next 10 or 20 years reexamine his Presidency. It is then that the heads of many of the left loons of all stripes will be making the sound Polenta blasting out of the pot (ever cook polenta unattended?) because their heads will be exploding from the praise of how good it actually was. We here at FR, will have many Shadenfraude moments for sure when that happens.....

It was. The problem became acute about 1824 and the Parties divided on whether to spend it on internal improvements. That debate continues and the two major Parties we have now are pretty hard to tell apart on this issue. On one side the Bridge to Nowhere, hardly a fresh issue, and NASA are equally abhorrent, on the other side these promote commerce--the very soul of the country.

I think you've got it figured out very well, taildragger. It's going to take some years before everyone catches on to how significant this Presidency was at a critical time in history.

(Now tell me about polenta...... :)
