This was my thought when they were first talking about conversations via IM. You'd be surprised what teens say to each other -much of it being in jest. The scenario of this guy sitting around the computer with a bunch of his buddies, laughing their @sses off seeing just how far they can get this old pervert to go is not out of the realm of possibility.

A sting is a sting. It takes a guilty person to be caught in a sting. I never used the word victim! It is within the realm of possibility that the ex-pages with whom he was corresponding were NOT turned on by his crude notes but they were laughing at him and leading him to utter totally disgusting comments.
Someone earlier on another thread was telling how his 17 year old nephew would pretend he was a lesbo on lesbo sites. The poster thought it would have been funny to find that all the lesbos on that site were actually 17 year old males. Anyway, it looks like your scenario is what happened. Only, someone took the "evidence" and ran with it.
