According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.

The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.

The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.

The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

Word games, a congressman IM's an underage (under 18) y/o and invites him over for a drink.

You can assume that if you are willing to break one law (underage drinking) that you would break another law or two.

Okay, so I didn't say that someone said "gee, that Foley, he was such a great guy...", but I "implied" it.

Okay. I think that the poster to which I was referring to, judging from his posts to me, *implied* that he thought Foley was a pretty good guy.

If some of the accusations from pages were not true, Foley would not have resigned. He knew the jig was up and he wanted to get out of the House so they could not discipline him. He deserves no apology. The people in his district in Florida who elected and then re-elected him should apologize to Americans for showing such poor judgment. But, then, we all know about Florida voters don't we?

I have seen very little defending Foley but I've seen a lot of defending the law and if the law is 18 Foley maybe be a perv but he's a legal perv.

As a freeper pointed out last evening, the person the dems sought to destroy could have gone to Massachusetts adz legally married the person he was IMing at the time of the salacious messages. What has happened to privacy and gay pride and gay rights and all that all of a sudden?

I am shocked and sickened to see so many posters even now still wishing to cave in to the demonic side of the democrat party with their accomplices in the media. Did you all see the thread last evening about the website that existed for the sole purpose of leaking out (dribbling out) the content till it climaxed with the IM's of the 18 year old. But of course the whole story was so convoluted by then that no one knew or even thought to question whether or not THESE were the "emails" were the ones that the Rep. leadership was aware of. And now even though we do know they were not some freepers are saying we deserve to lose the House and Hastert should still resign, etc. etc. I for one feel that not an inch of ground should be given. Foley has resigned. Our party can argue that we are the party that gets rid of disgusting animals like Foley. The other party doesn't and tries to make us think we should all be disgusting animals supporting sodomy, abortion, and infanticide (partial-birth abortion). OPEN YOU EYES FREEPERS!

I think you have hit on the core problem here and what will be the heart of the FBI investigation. It will center on who was being blackmailed by whom, when, where and how.

How often have we ranted about inexplicable votes, moves by conservatives to stall votes on judges, etc. Perhaps blackmail by staffers,or votes as protection for blackmailed staffers will come to light and explain some of the inexplicable.
