Schenck said Marian's grandfather told the assembled children they "must not think evil of this man who did this." A bit of Christian restraint that I'm afraid I can't bring myself to attain. There really are evil people.

A bit of Christian restraint that I'm afraid I can't bring myself to attain. There really are evil people. I don't think anybody can attain this kind of restraint on their own. It comes from God. I think what the preacher was trying to say was to not THINK evil about people (he wasn't saying that there aren't evil people in the world). What is so amazing about the Amish is that they're not focusing on what the other guy did wrong, they're focusing on their own hearts and reactions to this evil. Again, I don't think anybody can do this without God's strength.
