I've never had any doubts about Allen anyway.

It was never about 2006 - the 'Rats know they can't win anywhere in the South, including VA - even with them taking over the NOVA suburbs, and even with a less-than-moonbatish candidate.

It is - and always has been - about trying to destroy his national viability for 2008.

The great irony is if Allen does win by double digits - thus destroying the MSM expectations game - he is actually in a stronger position for '08.

It's OK Charlie Brown - Lucy will have another football for you to kick in a couple of years. :-)

You're exactly right. This is the DNC coming in to attempt to thwart Senator Allen. The Salon article, Larry Sabato, and all the other crap didn't originate in Virginia (yes I know Larry is at UVA - but dig deeper). Senator Allen is a strong conservative that has continually won, been elected to multiple offices (delegate, representative, governor, and senator), and appealed to a wide range of Virginia voters. He also led the 2004 RNC Senatorial Campaign that produced historic results including the outing of Tom Daschle. The DNC has to try and take him out, demoralize his base, and/or damage him at any cost. This is their SOP for Republican candidates.

A double digit win will make the DNC shutter. If you're in Virginia, it's time to pile it on. It will also make the DNC wonder about Hillary being a lightning rod. She has been in the Commonwealth recently (don't know if this corresponds directly to the poll) campaigning for Webb.

I think the Socialists/Dems fear Allen because he reminds them of Clinton. A Tall gentlemen with southern charm that whether he's good or evil wraps up the "non thinking" (vote with their eyes and emotions) female voters. This is a huge demographic that they counted on Clinton to fool and were hoping to have Hillary or possibly Lurch posess. Allen takes that away from them as well as the Nascar, Conservatives, many Southern Democrats, Real Men and Thinking Women.
