Very foggy, rainy, and windy. Combine that with air miles traveled (in a small plane) by a congressman and you have a fair chance of being in an accident at some point.

That will take a plane down very very quickly.
Conditions were freezing that day and the plane had to be deiced before takeoff if I recall correctly. Further, that plane supposedly had potential problems with exactly those conditions. Now factor in the reality that Wellstone's pilot LIED about his certification on that aircraft and was in wa-a-a-ay over his head.
Too bad for all of them, but them's the facts.
