Very foggy, rainy, and windy. Combine that with air miles traveled (in a small plane) by a congressman and you have a fair chance of being in an accident at some point.

Ever notice how few planes crash accidentally on a fine clear day?

You couldn't get me to fly in poor weather;matter of fact,I will not drive in a bad storm.Few of us are so vital to the world that delaying our arrival makes a difference.

Pure jets have a much better safety record...

You forgot the FAA waiver that members of Congress automatically get when weather would otherwise
ground the plane.

Hartnett. I recognize the name from that Hans Solo cop/realtor movie.

"Very foggy, rainy, and windy"

It was ICE.

That will take a plane down very very quickly.

Conditions were freezing that day and the plane had to be deiced before takeoff if I recall correctly. Further, that plane supposedly had potential problems with exactly those conditions. Now factor in the reality that Wellstone's pilot LIED about his certification on that aircraft and was in wa-a-a-ay over his head.

Too bad for all of them, but them's the facts.
