During the same period that Cantwell advisor Ron Dotzauer was found in contempt (even jailed briefly) for failing to meet his financial obligations to his ex-wife and daughter, having his earnings garnisheed to satisfy other debts, and borrowing money from Maria Cantwell, he was also making tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions.
How could he justify making political contributions while courts found him in default on his debts? In his November 1994 divorce trial brief, he called political contributions a "necessary business expense":

Maria Cantwell then lent Mr. Dotzauer substantial sums of money from her campaign, which he has not repaid.
And now it is revealed that Mr. Dotzauer, in a pleading filed in his divorce case, admitted to being paid by his employer to make personal campaign contributions to politicians, which would appear to be in violation of relevant campaign finance law.
A veritable sewer of corruption. None of which will ever make its way into the lamestream Washington state press.
Does the Seattle PI know about this? If they do, are their lips sealed?
