"I'm fed up with ABC and Mr. Wheeler," said Herron, 39, a 20-year combat veteran from Ivanhoe. "I'm very angry. They're accusing us of being cowards. If we abandoned him, why is he back in the U.S. telling his story?"

An Army investigation immediately after the incident found that the soldiers reacted properly.

All 15 soldiers in the convoy received military decorations for their actions during the ambush, including Bronze Stars with V for valor, Army commendation medals with V for valor, Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

"The actions of the unit saved numerous lives during this attack," Lt. Col. Michelle Martin-Hing, a spokeswoman for the Multi-National Corps-Iraq, said in a statement. "At no time did any individuals abandon the convoy. They fought back bravely while waiting for reinforcements and attending to the casualties."

That's the same question I had both in this case and in the case of that idiot "journalist" from Italy who claimed American troops tried to kill her.

"Jeffrey Schneider, senior vice president with ABC News, said the U.S. Army, the Virginia National Guard and Halliburton refused repeated requests to comment for several days before the story aired Sept. 27.

Schneider said the report accurately portrayed Wheeler's experience during the ambush. "

So, since they didn't have all the evidence, they went with 'heresay' bull!

Typical.

Yeah those inquiring calls made at 3AM were completely ignored.

What, the part where he screamed like a little girl into the radio that the insurgents were going to get him? That part is probably true.

The difference between a man and a soldier, and a girlyman journalist. I am always amazed when ordinary men have the brass to become soldiers like the ones who yanked his screaming ass out of the truck where he was cowering like a scared bunny. He is probably angry because he didn't have the stones to act like a man and now wants to blame those who do.

The problem is that the Roanoke Times doesn't get seen by as many people as ABC does.

"Schneider said the report accurately portrayed Wheeler's experience during the ambush."

If I want to look through the eyes of a hysterical wussy, I will either watch "Fear Factor" or watch the "Hillary on the Campaign Trail" documentary. But don't present this crap as serious news and then not correct your errors. Don't malign brave Americans in your quest to demonize the military.

"ABC News was unable to reach the soldiers and civilian drivers in the convoy because the military and Halliburton refused to release any information, said ABC News producer Rhonda Schwartz. "
Wottabunchacrap that is. One of the Big Three Liberal Media can't get the story??? And, of course, it is Halliburton's fault....

I think it is time to admit the reality and pass a law that NBC, CBS, and ABC must include a donkey in their logo.

"I expect them to do what any credible news agency would do and present the entire picture."

You expect too much, Major. ABC just flat ISN'T in the "credible news agency" category. Sorry to disappoint you with the truth; hope it's not too much of a shock. As in war, once you understand your enemy, their actions will not be so puzzling.

</Hastert double standard off>

Schneider was warned that he wasn't getting the full story, but he failed to promptly investigate. He needs to resign immediately.

</Hastert double standard on>

"What, the part where he screamed like a little girl into the radio that the insurgents were going to get him? That part is probably true."

You're right.

So they print the 'girly mans' hysterical raves as 'fact' and don't even bother to check whether it's true or not.

Nice.

>>Wynne said much of the gunfire Wheeler heard while hiding in his truck came from guardsmen who were standing next to the truck, beyond the view of Wheeler's video camera. Wynne said two gun trucks were behind Wheeler's disabled truck within minutes, fighting off insurgents attacking from all directions.<<

This is the kind of action that I expected from US troops, not the way the other article was written. Much better!

Thanks for chasing this down and posting the truth about the situation.
