If he is the (presumably) gay Senator to which this Rogers blogger is referring, I'd say it's more like succeeding. Check out the "nay" vote on banning gay marriage back in June, when he supported the Federal Marriage Amendment prior to that point.
Whom cares who it was. It was attempted or successful blackmail. Is this not McCarthyism????? This pisses me off big time.
