The presidents of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez; Cuba, Fidel Castro and Bolivia, Evo Morales, are the preferred leaders of the Argentineans if they could elect them as President of Argentina, according to a survey published Tuesday and conducted in Buenos Aires by a private pollster.

US President George W. Bush obtained 1 percent of votes.

The survey conducted by research firm Carlos Fara & Asociados on September 9-10 among 442 people in different economic and cultural strata has an error margin of 5.6 percent.

According to the survey, whose results were forwarded to AP, the respondents were asked what regional leader would they vote if they could elect him as the President of Argentina.

Chávez ranked first with 23 percent, followed by Castro (22 percent) and Morales (14 percent). Bush ranked last with 1 percent.

Nothing but a clown show down there in Buenos Aires these days. Argies know a good Juan Peron when they see one.

Dollars to donuts, Venezuelans would be glad to let Argy have him.

Some societies just are not capable of sustaining enlightenment forms of government.

I think it tells us more than we wanted to know about Argy and for that reason, is useful. Cripes, what's gotten into those people!

Can you imagine wanting a loser like Evo Morales as your leader? The guy can't count beyond his fingers!

I'm not saying Argentina is our best buddy, but without knowing more about this polling firm or their techniques, it's really hard to judge credibility.

This is a typo. Should read "margin of error 56 percent."

I've been to Argy and talked to pollsters. It's very credible. Argy is no Bolivia, the place is modern. But it's been in a snit with the US ever since it defaulted on its debt to the tune of $100 billion and 9/11 drew our attention elsewhere. They feel abandonded and depressed down there but they won't lift a finger to improve their lot. So they sit there in the mud and blame Uncle Sam. Their economy is being run by a clown president who is driving its long term prospects into the ground. He blames 'businessmen' for inflation and thinks inflation can be controlled by price controls. He just doesn't get it. Meanwhile, since they defaulted, no one will lend money to this country so there is no investment. Basically, Argy is a goner. That's where the resentment comes from, and it's a deep resentment. They really want a tinpot Juan Peron back and Hugo seems to fit the bill.

Must be a real wakeup call for W. He thought "democracy" would transform the ME. It can't even civilize South America. Rule #1...democracy is no better than the public it consists of. A democracy of vampires elects the most popular vampire...etc.

I suggest American idealism is nearing the crevasse.

Democracy (liberty) is a Judeo/Christian value and it is earned with blood.

It cannot be delivered to another people who are unwilling to earn it anymore than wealth can be effectively passed to those who inherit it.

Wealth and democracy/liberty must be fought for and earned. A gift is never appreciated and indeed ultimately corrupts the recipient.

I voted for W twice...but his legacy is already established. He was naive when confronted with the evil of our time...islam.

He could not and would not name the enemy and his legacy will show this.

And Argentina has proved it since the country was formed. They are plain idiots when it comes to politics and Peron made it worse. The peronistas have turned hard left now and that explains their support of Chavez.

Eeeeuw.

One can just imagine the numbers that particular thing would get over in argy.

The first lady of argy, a disgusting beach named cristina fernandez, attended the john kerry convention in 2004 and is known as the hillary of argy. i think she's really the evita. a real beach.

In all due respect, Hillary is a piker compared to Uncle Wolfie. Were it not for her rape-horney husband, we wouldn't even know her name.

She's a non-starter.

Too bad most Argentines' history of their nation begins with Juan and Eva Peron (with a nod to Bernardo O'Higgins). From 1900 to the start of the Peron era, Argentina nearly had the highest standard of living in the Hemisphere. They laughed at the suffering of Americans during the Depression, and bought from Detroit the automobiles that U.S. citizens could no longer afford. Healthy Argentine teeth chewed up far more excellent beef at lower cost than Norteamericanos could then dream of.

Then came the Perons, their disastrous alliance with the Nazis, and Argentina's own version of National Socialism. And this is what today's portenos remember most fondly.

I could be wrong. Australs for trade, anyone?
