There are ominous signs that the Earths weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth. The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now. The regions destined to feel its impact are the great wheat-producing lands of Canada and the U.S.S.R. in the North, along with a number of marginally self-sufficient tropical areas parts of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indochina and Indonesia where the growing season is dependent upon the rains brought by the monsoon.
The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it. In England, farmers have seen their growing season decline by about two weeks since 1950, with a resultant overall loss in grain production estimated at up to 100,000 tons annually. During the same time, the average temperature around the equator has risen by a fraction of a degree a fraction that in some areas can mean drought and desolation. Last April, in the most devastating outbreak of tornadoes ever recorded, 148 twisters killed more than 300 people and caused half a billion dollars worth of damage in 13 U.S. states.
To scientists, these seemingly disparate incidents represent the advance signs of fundamental changes in the worlds weather. The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earths climate seems to be cooling down.

Here is the text of Newsweeks 1975 story on the trend toward global cooling. It may look foolish today, but in fact world temperatures had been falling since about 1940. It was around 1979 that they reversed direction and resumed the general rise that had begun in the 1880s, bringing us today back to around 1940 levels. A PDF of the original is available here. D.D.
VERY interesting! thanks.
I remember these days. There was even discussion of using nukes at the poles.
Global warming ping
I love that article, thanks.
When I was in high school global cooling was a big topic. We were warned of a coming ice age and the shortage of food supplies, etc.
Imagine my surprise when all of the sudden global warming was the topic when my kids were in school and we were all going burn up as the earth became too hot to sustain life.
I read an article here the other day that said the ozone layer is thickening and the hole is smaller than it has been in over 10 years, predicting global cooling once again.
Another article claims the ozone hole is bigger than ever which proves global warming is speeding up.
What all of this proves to me is the "experts" have no idea what any of this means. These things seem to go in cycles and I don't think man has studied it all long enough to understand what is going on.
The date published should be April 28, 1975.
Thanks for correction.
Another reason to fade the media.
Don't forget Paul Ehrlich's book "The Population Bomb" published at about the same time, which predicted massive overpopulation would cause global starvation by the year 2000.
As I recall, a theory was being floated back then that the cooling was being caused by particulates in the atmosphere reflecting sunlight. And the cause -- burning fossil fuels!
Lots of dire predictions that have since been proven wrong. That is why I take most "scientific" theories with a grain of salt.( including evolution). Just wait awhile and the theory will change. The problem is they want billions in tax revenues to " save the planet" only to find out they couldn't change anything anyway. I always had questions like, "Why should I have to give up 99 cent Freon 12, when Mexico, China, and India didn't?" The truth is closer to the patent expiration at DuPont than ozone depletion. /tinfoil removed
Turns out Saccharin doesn't cause cancer and bacon and eggs is still a good breakfast. We may even discover that abortion kills babies and homosexuality is perversion soon. Even Republican queers want to boink your sons, just like other NAMBLA Democrat freaks.
Oh my, that sounded harsh, is that "hate speech" or do we still have "free speech?" Stick around, that will change.
I remember this. As a resident of the Texas Gulf Coast I was cheering global cooling on.
Follow the money -- research grants and funding are what this is all about. Self-perpetuating academia.
