It is very difficult to be rational about life in general and still obey the taboo against rational examination of one's religion, in this case islam. Islam cannot withstand rational examination because it isn't rational.
In a strange way, islam's enemy isn't the infidels, or even modernity...it is reality itself and rational thought.
