Battle for control of Congress tightens (looks better for Republicans)

President George W. Bush's recent gains in approval ratings have improved Republican prospects in the November 7 fight for Congress, but analysts say Democrats still have the upper hand with a disaffected public in the mood for change.

But Bush's slight rise in approval ratings in the last month, a big drop in gas prices and renewed voter attention to the fight against terrorism, usually a party strength, encouraged Republicans and improved their position in some tight races, analysts said.

"For Republicans, the outlook remains bad but is no longer horrific," said political handicapper Charlie Cook, publisher of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Republican consultant Whit Ayres said: "We're still climbing a mountain, but it is not as steep as it was a month ago. We can see the possibility of holding the House and Senate, and that was a very difficult outcome to see a few months ago."

Democrats are still in a strong position to retake the House and have an outside chance to seize control in the Senate, but both chambers remain up for grabs as voters begin to turn their full attention to the election.

If President Bush and the Republicans will put the facts in front of the voters and let them know how the Dems cannot be trusted with the security of the nation and the conservatives, Republicans, moderates will turn out and vote Republican, I think we have an excellent chance of holding onto Congress.

It's a big IF, but everyone needs to do their part to keep the Dems from taking control.

This race is really quite different than the national view portrayed in the article. Its about 40 House Districts and 6 to 7 Senate races.

Santorum and Burns will be cut off from funding in a week or so if their numbers don't rise in internal polls. A few bleaker House races will see the same fate.

Next week we will be down to 30 House Districts and 4 Senate races.
That's where the money, the paid staff and volunteers will concentrate for the remaining month.

At this point I think the republicans will lose both the house and the senate. But the fight doesn't end on election day. It should be fought day after day, week after week. Treat every day like election day.
If I were the republicans I'd start running ads right now empasiszing that Nancy Pelosi and the democrats will use their majorities in congress to impeach President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. Which will leave us with President Pelosi and a nightmare agenda for the nation.
First we'll cut in run in Iraq and leave the terrorists in control of an oil rich safe haven. And every terrorist around the world will know that America will cut and run when things get rough.
Secondly we'll go back to the Clinton years of national security. The democrats did nothing to disrupt the terrorists network. The Hit us at will at the World Trade Center in 1993, the Khobar towers, the embassies in Kenya, the U.S.S. Cole. They had the time and resources to plan 9/11. We did absolutely nothing to defeat the terrorists. We just stood there appeased them and let our people die. With Nancy Pelosi as President we can go back to the good ole days where we didn't have a patriot act, the NSA wire tapping program. Instead of interrogating the terrorists we'll give them an ACLU lawyer and let them walk free.
When it comes to the economy, the liberals we'll raise taxes and punish all Americans. Clinton left us in a recession. Yet the tax cuts have stimulated economic growth. Revenues to the government are exploding. Tax cuts are revenue generators. And the rich today are paying a higher percentage of this nation's tax burden than they did under Clinton. And the middle class's tax burden has fallen. But under President Pelosi we'll go back to the punitive tax policies that left us in a recession.
I'd like to see the RNC and 527's run ads every day for the next year emphasizing these points. The socialists lies have unfortunately become the truth for millions of Americans. We need to educate the masses day after day so that the truth can defeat the left. Talk radio and the Internet isn't enough. The people need to see it on TV for it to sink in.

IMHO, this ignores the fact that many of those wishing for a change in Congress are wishing that Repbulicans and Democrats both stopped acting so much like Democrats. Especially, in the Senate.
