PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: With the First Lady involved in events related to the National Book Festival this weekend, the President spent Saturday at Camp David where he enjoys the more challenging mountain bike riding trails. Yesterday, an article by Laura Bush (her preferred way of being addressed) appeared in the Opinion Journal of The Wall Street Journal. In it, the First Lady discusses the books that inspired her to champion literacy. Here's a link to the article, and following is the list of the books that inspired her, in the order she ranks them:
1. "Hop on Pop" by Dr. Seuss (Random House, 1963).2. The "Little House" Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder (Harper, 1932-43).
3. "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1880).
4. "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott (1868).
5. "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain (1884).
In the meantime, President Bush is set to campaign heavily for Republican candidates between now and election day. Tomorrow he beings a three-day swing through Nevada, California, Arizona and Colorado. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said GWB will be on the road almost constantly between now and Election Day. "You're going to see a very active travel schedule. He's going to be all over the country campaigning for Republicans," Snow said at a recent breakfast. "There are a lot of candidates saying, 'Please, please, please, come to my district or come to my state.'"
The First Lady and Vice President Cheney have already been on a heavy campaign schedule. Now, with just over a month left in the mid-term campaign, the President will join them on the campaign trail.

Hi.
To the Dose community: Jonny will substitute for me the next two or three weekends while I move. I couldn't be more grateful to have Jonny on deck to help out in this situation. He's a great Dose host. :)
You guys are fast. Great choice of photo, Wolfstar.
Anyone who can look like that while watching Bob Woodward get honored for his latest book deserves our respect.
The President walking across the South Lawn accompanied by...could it be our birthday boy, Barney, in the center of the photo?
Looking fit and handsome, Dubya waves to...well, Yahoo says its reporters, but I'd prefer to think it's supporters. ;-)
Good afternoon. How are you?
So Dubya, kind as ever, pats the boy's head.
The Medal of Honor flag was created by an Act of Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush Oct. 23, 2002. Each service was charged with presenting the flag to its recipients in an appropriate ceremonial manner. The flag can only be presented to a Medal of Honor recipient or a recipient's primary next of kin by a top-ranking member of the armed forces. The Medal of Honor is our country's highest military honor, awarded for acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty. (AP Photo/U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Chad J. In celebration of Barney's 6th birthday, here are a few of my favorite photos of our little Scottish friend. :)
Thinking of certain Dimocrat body parts, Barney nudges a golf ball on the Oval Office Rug.
Always guarding his Boss' back, Barney looks out the window of the Oval Office.
He also helps the President greet visitors to the Oval Office.
I think we have a three-way tie! I hope so!
Barney laughs uproariously at the thought of Ted Kennedy ever visiting the WH again on his watch.
Waiting for The Boss to pitch a horseshoe.
He's even offered to drive the truck home.
Dubya and his best buddy in an unguarded moment.
