I've seen no allegations that he's molested boys. Clearly he's strayed into sexual harassent territory, and perhaps can be accused of being a pervert, but so far no one has accused him of actually having sex, of any kind, with any of the pages or any other young boys. Looks like to me he got his jollies just flirting with them.

He still may have broken some laws if he was engaged in exchanging sexual messages with minors...but that is a whole different thing than actually physically engaging in sex acts with minors.

Don't let facts get into the way of your incredibly ignorant opinions.

Steve Gobie

In 1990, the House voted to reprimand Frank when it was revealed that Steve Gobie, a household employee he had hired in 1985, was running a prostitution business from Frank's apartment. Frank had dismissed Gobie earlier that year after learning of Gobie's activities.[5]

The Boston Globe, among others, called on Frank to resign, but he refused. The House Ethics Committee recommended Frank be reprimanded because he "reflected discredit upon the House" by using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie's parking tickets. Attempts to expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to reprimand him. [6]

"Outing": The Frank Rule

During an anti-gay GOP campaign, Frank threatened to out a number of gay-baiting Republican fellow congressmen. He stated that it is unacceptable to out a closeted gay person, unless that person uses their power or notoriety to hurt gay people [7]

Many members of the LGBT community adhere to this rule in their own relationships with prominent individuals.

Is there a moral difference between Foley and Barney Frank, who continues to represent Massachusetts?

You know...Frankly...I couldn't care less. All these Freepers that keep bringing up Clinton and Frank...and the other guy and their moral lowlights need to give it a rest. This ain't about that. I expect democrats to be scumbags. This is about the GOP and a bad apple...and GOP leadership and what they knew and when they knew it.

I expect the DNC to cover stuff up...lie...protect their scumbag politicians...and then re-elect them. I expect something TOTALLY different from our own. So...every time we start talking like this and someone brings up Barney Frank or Bill Clinton...it's almost like we are saying (which Ann Coulter DID say on Fox yesterday...) "Well...they do it worse..."

Of course they do it worse...they are democrats. That's the point. The real way to play this is: "We don't play like this." Don't even mention Clinton or Frank. WE already expect them to act like that. We expect our own to be ABOVE reproach. If our leadership KNEW about this scumbucket and did nothing (and we don't know that they did...), then they need to be held accountable. That's what we do because we have higher standards. We are Republicans.

Pointing fingers and saying: "Well...they do it too..." makes us no different then the dems. And...go ahead...check how long I've been here (because it seems you can't even have a discussion any longer at FR without being called a troll...that's what we've come to)...chances are...a lot longer than most.

Yesterday on Fox, Ann Coulter should have never brought up Frank and just agreed with the dim. She should have said: "Foley was wrong and should be prosecuted if laws were broken. If the leadership knew and did nothing...they should be held accountable. The GOP holds morality and intergrity above all, which is a lot more than I (or you) can say for your party. Actions speak louder than words. Watch our actions."

Franks' guy was a full grown adult.

"full grown" --- maybe that's why Barney liked him.

It's likely not, unless the offense occurs in a jusidiction where molestation would include electronic communications of a sexual nature.

I see onyx posted the story above; I'd forgotten the details. Well, it's creepy and he resigned which is the right thing.

It sounds like he didn't contact these former pages until they left their jobs in Congress, so that makes it slightly less ominous, imo. It wasn't the typical trade of sex for job threat.

Overlook what? I've been gone a week and haven't been watching or reading any news, but if Foley is gay and was IM'ing some pages (btw, I believe it all happened after the pages left Congress), then what's the problem?

The problem is that, as I read Louisiana statute (which is evidently where the emails were sent to), Foley's actions are considered to be child molestation.

If it were an adult staffer, he probably could have weathered the storm. But the "eeew factor" in this thing is off the charts.

I think when most freepers bring up Clinton and Franks, including me, we're pointing out the incredible, just unbelievable hypocrisy of the left.

I read yesterday that the IMs had been collected by someone (a Dem) who was involved in the Wilson/Plame thing. Supposedly the GOP leadership just thought they were dealing with ambiguous e-mails, which could have been interpreted one way or the other, until the IMs were released.

However, I will say that the leadership probably knew Foley was gay and didn't want to look as if they were picking on him, and were too intimidated by the gay factor to investigate any further.

He's a creepy, vile homosexual predator but he's GONE. This is all about making Nancy with the ghastly face speaker by trying to blame Hastert.

So the pages had left Congress, were presumably over the age of 16 but under the age of sexual consent of 18. If that is correct, then it's clearly illegal and he should be prosecuted.

He's resigned which is good and I did see a press release Hastert put out today and unless it's all CYA, it doesn't look like the GOP ignored this matter at all.

"I find it peculiar that all the pages knew about it, were warned, and didn't want to speak up for fear of retribution. They're speaking up now? What gives?"

It's just a little more than a month away from a very significant mid-term election and someone likely wooed these kids with some big perk if they would just so happen to let this hit the news at a time that would be damaging for Republicans. Of course, the prmise is likely going to be a load of BS, especially when this whole thing eventually backfires on the Dims...as somehow it will.

Not that I've ever had any, but that power thing must be strong stuff for a guy to twist his life around like that for it.
