CA: Rift within GOP?
Whittier Daily News ^ | 9/30/06

Posted on 09/30/2006 10:04:07 PM PDT by NormsRevenge

As Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign appears to be getting more and more love from California voters, he's not getting nearly as much from some Republicans.

Just take the California Republican Assembly, a group that supports GOP conservatives.

It has recently launched a Web site - www.cravictoryteam.com - to help Republican activists get materials and data to communicate with GOP voters.

But one name - Schwarzenegger's - is missing from the site's list of "our candidates." And the same name is missing on the endorsed list of candidates on the CRA's own Web site.

Otherwise, every statewide Republican candidate is on both lists.

Mike Spence, president of the CRA, said they're not snubbing the governor. Schwarzenegger just doesn't need their help.

"He's already spending over $25 million on himself," Spence said. "Why spend our precious funds? We're worried about the down-ticket races who are not getting the help the party typically provides."

For example, the party's door hangers don't even include U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mountjoy, he said.

Patrick Dorinson, communications director for the Republican Party, said they can't put Mountjoy's name on something that also includes state candidates.

"If we put a federal candidate on it, we have to pay for it with federal money," Dorinson said. "It's tougher to come by. You'll notice there's no David Dreier on it or other congressional members."

Spence, in a column written for the blog, Flash Report, blamed the Schwarzenegger campaign for the new project.

"We have to be honest about this," Spence stated. "The Governor's campaign, while emphasizing no new taxes, is built around billions of bond debt and signing bills that appeal to tree huggers, cross-dressers" and people who feel they are entitled to state benefits.

"This isn't exactly a great way to recruit GOP volunteers. The State GOP fired their church outreach person and appears to have reassigned others involved. Their church outreach can only be described as pray only."

Amanda Fulkerson, regional press secretary for the Schwarzenegger campaign, said there's no rift in the party.

"Both polls released this week show strong support among Republicans for Governor Schwarzenegger," Fulkerson said. "If there is one candidate in this race that has a problem with his base, it's Phil Angelides whose support among Democrats is severely lagging."

REPUBLICAN MEETING: Former state Sen. Richard Mountjoy, R-Monrovia, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, will speak at the 7:30 a.m. Friday meeting of the Southeast chapter of the Lincoln Clubs of Los Angeles County.

The event will be held at Geezer's Restaurant, 12120 Telegraph Road, Santa Fe Springs. Cost is $25 per person.

For reservations, write LACLC, 6055 E. Washington Blvd. Suite 228, Commerce, CA 90040, or call Peter Bylsma, (323) 215-4500, or e-mail bylsma@lagop.org.

Paging the Ca GOP Damage Control Team,, White Courtesy Phone..

So is this why Mountjoy is not worthy of endorsement or even a word of encouragement or support for his Senatorial campaign by the Gubinator?

or is it just a Federal campaign funding issue thingy as to why he gets even less support or exposure than previous Rino and gay GOP candidates for the same office ever received mailers, door hangers or whatever notwithstanding?

Will the CAGOP support downticket candidates? The guy at the top of the ticket is doing fine. That's not where the party needs to devote its funds and resources in the remaining days of the campaign.

Conservatives in California need to relieze that Arnold is the only reason why the Down-ticket candidates, most of whom are Conservatives, have a shot this November. Give the guy a break, the state is in almost irrepairable state, and he has an outrageously Liberal legislature to deal with.

The fact of the matter is, You help out Arnold with a big turnout, I assure you, at least a couple of those state-wide offices will go our way.

If the Nov. 7 election were held today, likely voters would favor the Republican governor over Angelides 50% to 33%.

The survey found an abundance of grim signs for Angelides, including a failure to match Schwarzenegger's success in rallying voters of his own party strongly behind his candidacy. Just 61% of Democrats support Angelides, while 88% of Republicans favor Schwarzenegger. And independents, a crucial swing vote, support Schwarzenegger over Angelides 49% to 31%.

What?!! There is a Republican opponent for Feinstein? I had no idea. Knock me over with a feather. I haven't heard a peep out of Mountjoy, haven't seen an ad, a flyer, nothing.

I'll have to check the Sec. of State's website now and see if there is a Republican opponent for Ellen Tauscher (D), Congresswoman from the 10th District, not that it would matter. If there is one, it's a secret.

The only people the rift benefits, is the Democrats.

Why do you think GARAMENDI is promoting "the rift" between Arnold and Tom McClintock?

Why do you think Angelides and the CA Dems are COUNTING on the conservatives staying home, to win?

A Recipe for Success (for Angelides) (Conservatives are Angelides' secret weapon)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1689690/posts

Here are some things he could do:

o Attack Arnold from the right :

§ Illegal immigration–Arnold has angered the conservative base with some of his comments on this issue. The Angelides campaign, or perhaps an anti-Arnold independent expenditure campaign, could attack Arnold in the mail or on the radio and use Arnold’s own words against him.

§ Taxes/government spending–The state government continues to run what is essentially a deficit and Arnold’s numerous proposals to increase government spending and borrowing turn off Republicans. This line of attack could also mitigate some of the tax attacks against Angelides.

Schwarzenegger Hears Rumbles From the Right

" low conservative turnout will loom as a key peril for the governor and a prime source of hope for Democrats."

====

"Angelides ... must win 80% of the Dems and a solid majority of the DTS (declined to state) registrants, TO ACCOMPANY THE 15% REPUBLICANS WHO DON'T VOTE FOR THEIR PARTY'S TICKET"

ANGELIDES IS COUNTING ON THEM.

=====

Angelides team bullish on California's blue state math (counting on CONSERVATIVES, to win)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1676818/posts

Angelides' camp believes that while the governor enjoys support among some Democrats now, by the time ballots are cast in November, the base will remain loyal.

They also believe that the opposite will occur with the Republicans because Schwarzenegger's recent move to the left on key issues such as immigration and the environment has alienated conservatives.

To pull off a win, Angelides must seize his opportunities

"But it will not be easy, and Angelides must take full advantage of the opportunities: ... the governor's sometimes tense relationship with conservatives; "

The CRA is not opposing Arnold, and is in fact making walk lists and collateral available for GOTV efforts. This may not sound like much, but it's a heck of a lot more than I've seen from the CRP this time around, let alone the county CC.

Yes, I noticed how my posting the truth and facts really upsets you -- it interferes with your propaganda agenda, to try to get conservatives stay home so that Angelides and his Dem cohorts can get elected.

btw,, What you call attacks are justified if you could separate fantasy from reality and your pompoms from your clinched little fists,,

Is the Gub just a big weinie? where has his fight gone? It's sad to see such a "Pro" roll over like a puppy at the feet of the dems like a conquered foe. but I for one always doubted he was doing anything more than acting like their foe.

He has accomplished more for the dem agenda than they could have ever hoped for the last 3 years.

How many Republicans support the bonds package, FO?

How many dems support the bonds package?

Just curious, you're so full of knowledge and insight after all.

Did you read the post?

The CRA is providing walk lists so people can do their GOTV.

How is it that a conservative organization mobilizing their conservative members for GOTV becomes, in your words, "Angelides secret weapon"?

Unfortunatly in Liberal states like ours, we have to side with the moderates every once in a while to keep the moonbats from messing things up more than it already is. Let's face it, without extraordinary circumstances, Conservatives don't win very often these days in statewide elections in Massachusetts or California, we have to comprismise to even get a little bit of what we want. It's wrong, but its the best we can do.

But with the case with Arnold here, you can stop a moonbat like Angelides, and have to the potential for coattails for McLintock, Pooch, and Strickland. To a defeated Massachusetts Conservative, that doesn't sound all that bad.

Fo, I have never told anyone to not do their civic duty and vote.

You like to portray anyone's effort here to get more than lip service paid to issues made out to be anti-aRnie..

He is his own worst enemy, quite frankly, and if you can't see that , surrounding himself with kennedys all around , gays ,, and greens, and espousing I am a republican,, lol.. That is one helluva job of acting.. and here you are applauding it every step of the way, .. well, what can I say. just keep spinning and twisting away.. it's what you do best.

and what do you do when you have an egotistical Gub who is so out there that he is literally doing the dems dirty work, do you bless it and in so doing assume responsibility and culpability for his being an idiot and in your same party?

you have a tougher stomach then I and many others. I salute it.

Unfortunately many don't want to learn from history, to listen to the voice of experience, and continue to cut off their nose to spite their face, until the CA GOP will become extinct also.

Already, NO Republican candidate has been elected to statewide office in CA, with the exception of Arnold and the so-called conservatives are working overtime to undermine his victory.
