Check out the Recent Earthquakes web site http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/latestfault.htm.
If you go to the United States link & include the two quake (4.8 & 4.5) offshore of Baja, I count six M4+ quakes in general West Coast area in the last four days.
11/26, Sunday, 2:11 pm - a M4.3 in the Mammoth Lakes area, with mostly very small aftershocks.
11/27, Monday, 8:06 pm - a ML4.1 near Paso Robles, perhaps a late aftershock of the San Simeon earthquake.
11/29, Wednesday, 7:34 am local - a M4.8 quake about 125 miles offshore of Baja, about halfway down the peninsula. There was a M4.5 aftershock at 2:15 pm local time this afternoon.
11/29, Wednesday, 1:10 pm - ML4.0 quake near Ocotillo (near the border between Imperial & San Diego Counties). There has been some decent swarm activity in that area lately, including a M3.8 at 4:17 am today. Aftershocks have included: M3.5 at 1:12 pm, M3.1 at 1:26 pm & 3.7 at 2:15 pm.
11/29, Wedneday, 1:20 pm - M4.0 3 miles west of Hollister.
We have seen clumps (not a technical term) of earthquakes at different locations in a short time period before, without any dire consequences. Look at May 1980 or July 1986 for more extreme examples than this. So its not alarming. But it is interesting, especially after the low activity weve had in the last months.
Thanks for the ping!
