Our land is 6 miles from the border and I am thrilled the fence is being built.
I haven't had a chance yet to read the details of what passed; but the areas where the fence is going in if they haven't made big changes is West of us through AZ, and East of us and on into Texas. That means we will be in the gap between two long stretches. That is not exactly good for us, because the illegal traffic will funnel right through here.
I am still all for a fence and am hoping the technology and additional manpower that we should get in this area will keep the traffic down to a bearable level.
Even so, I am really happy because it is the right thing, and a giant step in the right direction. I realize there are hotter spots right now than my area and they need the fence NOW.
The way I see it, once this fence is in place, if we do become a hot spot then we can raise cain and hopefully get enough support to get more fence built.
Do you have a map of where it's going?
Part of the logic of leaving gaps, as it was explained to me, was to allow the BP to focus their resources on the few areas where crossing would be possible. It's an old military tactic.
If you are indeed going to become a hot spot for crossings, I would suggest you figure out a way to take advantage of all the BP personnel who will be taking up residence near you. The hotel operators here in Sierra Vista have done just that - we have had 5 new hotels built this year, and still don't have enough.
