Bush renews sanctions threat against Iran

The Associated Press

Published: September 29, 2006

WASHINGTON The Bush administration again threatened Iran with U.N. punishment Friday unless it responds positively to demands it cease work on processing uranium.

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice plans to confer by telephone this weekend with senior European diplomat Javier Solana and the foreign ministers of Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia.

Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns will have parallel talks with his counterparts, as well.

Solana has been holding talks with Ali Larijani, Iran's top nuclear negotiator. There have been vague reports of some progress, but Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday again rejected demands Iran suspend enrichment.

The Bush administration is convinced Iran is on the way to making nuclear weapons, but Iran insists its nuclear programs have as a goal only more energy.

You mean the President isn't focused on school uniforms, V chips, and other meaningless initiatives.

No, silly. Schools generally fall outside federal authority because the Constitution makes no mention whatsoever of education although schools existed in some communities at the time of its signing. The Tenth Amendment clearly makes school uniforms a topic beneath the presidency.

I'm not quite sure what a V-chip is--an obscure technology designed to block imagery of certain parts of the anatomy of certain pop stars or the lies of a certain impeached, disgraced ex-president and his fellow political partisans from reaching the American public? Mandating such technology certainly violates freedom of speech and of the press, and for better or for worse, few Americans have purchased it. So that violates the first amendment.

Perhaps you (referring to a certain impeached, disgraced ex-president) need to read the appropriate sections of the Constitution, including the article that describes the Presidential job description--commander in chief of all land and naval forces of the United States, recipient of ambassadors from foreign lands, and negotiator of treaties with foreign potentates. The Secretaries of War [Defense] and of State exist to assist the President in this awesome responsibility. The President simply doesn't have the time or inclination to waddle into such petty domestic matters as school uniforms or obscure television parts.
