I already mentioned one possibility.
Can one not even consider the fact that this man could have resigned knowing he'd never get a fair shake in the press regardless of his innocence? Can you think of anyone else we know of who resigned for that reason? Shouldn't the idea be considered that the hell public figures are put through everyday by false accusations might make them consider taking the coward's way out and getting out of the spotlight, even if they are innocent and have to give up power?
I'm taking the wait-and-see approach which I certainly think is quite sensible since all we've got so far is the story from the pages and ABC. If more concrete evidence emerges, then fine, no harm done on my part and I hope he suffers for the rest of his life. If he's innocent, then I can feel good knowing I did not rush and declare an innocent man to be guilty of a horrible, horrible offense.
