For all your statutory needs:

The relevant provision should be (4a) unless I'm totally misreading it. :P

It would be great if this incident would lead to a through cleaning and expulsion of all the login cabin Repubs from the GOP, what a joke. Republicans are a big tent, but they dont the perverts in the tent.

#1 - more proof (was it really needed????????) that we don't want these Log Cabin types in the GOP

#2 - one of the few redeeming aspects of Katherine Harris' nomination for Senate was that the nominee wasn't Foley

#3 - NO POOFTERS!!!!!

Wow, I just read the sub-headline on the Drudge Report about this. ABC says they have 'explicit excerpts' of Foley's e-mails?

This is stunning news.

I haven't been on Freerepublic for almost two years now because I was so sickened with the Republican Party. What's happened since the election has only gotten worse. It's unbelievable to me how inept the GOP is. Rush and all the other conservative talking heads make fun of the Democrats but Republicans have become almost like them. I knew from day one Foley was a homo and would be trouble. The good voters of South Carolina better learn from this and get rid of that awful Lindsey Graham. When you look at how these congressional and state races are going, it's incredible disheartening for conservatives. The GOP under Bush I and II has done NOTHING to build on the legacy and foundation that Reagan laid. Sad times for the conservative movement.

this idiot just cost us a House seat, Foley's name will not come off the ballot

http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=Ch0100/Sec111.HTM

Florida rules :

In the event that death, resignation, withdrawal, removal, or any other cause or event should cause a party to have a vacancy in nomination which leaves no candidate for an office from such party, the Department of State shall notify the chair of the appropriate state, district, or county political party executive committee of such party; and, within 5 days, the chair shall call a meeting of his or her executive committee to consider designation of a nominee to fill the vacancy. The name of any person so designated shall be submitted to the Department of State within 7 days after notice to the chair in order that the person designated may have his or her name on the ballot of the ensuing general election. If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee's name will appear on the ballot. Any ballots cast for the former party nominee will be counted for the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee. If there is no opposition to the party nominee, the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee will be elected to office at the general election. For purposes of this paragraph, the term "district political party executive committee" means the members of the state executive committee of a political party from those counties comprising the area involving a district office.

Enough hand-wringing.

For those who are concerned about losing the House to Nancy Pelosi and Charles Rangel, your task now is to

1) understand and accept that the fact that keeping this strong Republican seat is now in jeapordy

2) If you are a Floridian in Foley's district, you must go out or your way to get fellow Republicans out to vote on election day, as this event will serve as a discouragement from doing so

3) If you are a resident of one of the 40 or so districts that are too close to call, get out of this thread and go do something to support your Republican candidate

Well, don't just sit there...MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!

Why couldn't he have simply cried to the cameras, and have announced that he was checking himself in for rehab? He would have been praised as a hero for openly admitting he has a problem, and we could have all prayed for his full recovery while sopping up all the contrition.

Wait a sec; did someone just say he is an evil Republican? Well, nevermind.

No time to read whole thread, but the American Conservative Union gave him a rating of 63 for 2005 (68 for 2004). Let's hope the party can run a more conservative replacement candidate in the few weeks remaining.
