It's never too long before the latest craze to sweep America makes its way to the UK but most would wish this one really hadn't.
Celebrity wigs designed for babies up to nine months old and are set to hit the market, to the outrage of children's charities.
There's a Bob Marley style dreadlock wig, a Samuel L Jackson afro as seen in movie Pulp Fiction and a Donald Trump comb-over - perhaps for that mature look.
For the girls there's flowing pink locks based on singer Lil' Kim.
But Michelle Elliott of Kidscape said as well as unnecessary the wigs could be dangerous.
"This is ridiculous. Any parent who buys one of these wigs for their child needs their head examining."
Wigs are incredibly uncomfortable for a start. Babies are wonderful but dirty little things and the last thing they need is a wig."
The wigs are manufactured by California-based firm BabyToupee and cost £14.
The firm's website says its aim to "show that while parenting can be a great responsibility, it can also be a source of endless amusement."
Founder Graham Farrar said: "Having a baby doesn't mean you have to stop having fun or do everything by the book. We don' take ourselves or our products too seriously."
Yawn
So 2 million Muslims are going to tell the other 58 million of us what to wear?
Yeah, right.

Do you go to church?
Though I truly hope you're right and that I'm wrong.
Everything Good....
The only time I've seen wigs like that on babies is at Halloween time. The Brits are making the wig hoopla up. ;)
Did this get started when an Irish magazine said Tiger Woods' wife was looking forward to having children so she could make them wear wigs?! |
It'll have to narrow bloody quickly if there's going to be a majority of Mussies in only 25 years. The biggest influx of immigrants with high birthrate we have at the moment are white Catholics: Poles and other East Europeans.
Do you go to church?
No. I talk to Christians and I get Paul's letters quoted at me. It's Galatians this and Corinthians that. Is it Paulianity or Christianity? I lose track.
Though I truly hope you're right and that I'm wrong.
We'll see. But a 30:1 ratio is a huge thing to overcome, whatever the birthrate.
Everything Good....
And to you too, my friend.
That being said, I taught for 11 years in a primary school in Hounslow, West London. Hounslow is right nest to Heathrow airport, so has a high immigrant population. 95% of the kids in the school were Asian (in the British meaning of the term, ie from the Indian subcontinent), mainly Sikh, but with a lot of Hindus and Muslims too. We had a carol concert and a nativity play every year, attended by the parents and with all the kids joining in.
The parents loved it and accepted it as part of traditional British culture. There was never a single complaint. I remember casting an 8-year old Muslim girl to play Mary in the year my class did the nativity... she 'gave birth' by pulling the baby Jesus doll, which was kept under the chair she was sitting on, out from under her long skirt, a completely innocent ad-lib that brought the house down!
