"international disgrace" = leaving our citizens as hostages in a foreign country for 444 days
It's only people like Carter with that kind of albatross around their necks (the Iran hostage crisis) that protest and squawk against other Presidents like the current one.
The psycho-logic of course is that the more they point fingers at others' policies the less likely people will either be made aware for the first time or be reminded for the umpteenth time what they themselves did.And sadly , the more they get away with it by getting the compulsory attention the media gives them, every ahistorical newcomer to the political scene will take them as some kind of wise man/guru/pundit/ grey eminence unthinkingly. There IS a direct relationship.Clinton is of course another predictably mouthy protestor over everyone else's policies, and let's not even START listing the things that will ensure perpetual roasting in Hell for Bubba. But Carter and Bubba have always seemed opposite sides of the same coin for me. I am not surprised at all that they continue to redefine the terms IRRELEVANT and OBNOXIOUS in new ways every day. These are two Southern gifts that keep on giving---in two words "political kudzu".
