I live in San Diego 15 miles north of Mexico.
We are being bled dry and to the toon of mega millions
of dollars a year and American lives lost.
We want a fence for the same reason you lock your door at night and lock your car when you park it.

If you lived 90 miles from the border you would change your opinion very quickly.
One of my neighbors put a new water well on his property for his livestock.
Two weeks after it was finished the Border Patrol picked up a "wet" with the well marked on a map.
Until you live with the problem you might want to consider the issue from the view of someone who is "at risk" from it.

If you consider that a significant reduction in illegals crossing over will result in less gratis expenditures for social services, the US will end up SAVING money by building this fence.
