Got news for you folks. If this Congressman said such things to a 16 year old (male, at that), there's one HELL of a lot to it. Wake up.

Amen.

I cannot even believe a congressman would do such a thing; and if he did, he needs to go NOW........not in a while.

Dear lord.

I may be naive but I don't see anything inappropriate here? If he does not have kids himself, he may not really be "up" with how to talk to kids, but this doesn't seem like anything to me.

I don't know how it is now, but when I worked in the House a couple decades ago, the Congressmen were pretty close to their staff. There was a secretary or two, an administrative head honcho, two or maybe three legislative assistants, and that was about it. An office might have one intern at a time. If the intern was an engaging type, the Congressman/woman might have a lot of interaction with the intern. It would be comparable to working for a Doctor with a couple of experienced nurses, a receptionist, file clerk and then they hire a local kid to help out.

On the Senate side, where I also worked for a while, it was a lot different. Each Senator got a budget based on the size of the state, but even the smaller state Senators had big offices. The people who work there did not all have daily interaction with the head guy. It was more like working in a mid-sized firm that had one head honcho, a staff of 6 or 8 VPs, a coterie of 8 legislative aides/researchers/letter answerers, and a large support staff of secretaries, file people and constituent relations people. There, the Senator might meet with the interns once, at a special luncheon, all summer.

So, it seems to me that this could be a case of a Congressman taking a genuine interest in a kid who worked in his office, or it could be creepy. No way to know, but the emails themselves don't prove or indicate anything.

Ok,,we're awake, so explain to us why this intern, who never worked for Foley, and obviously was not known by Foley, would ask for a recommendation from Foley. If he sent an e-mail to Foley's personal e-mail, and got a reply FROM that account, who is to blame for that? What does it matter that the kid was "male, at that"? Wouldn't the e-mail be just as damning if the intern were female? or are you just outraged because there may be a 'gay' factor here?

The only "news" here "folks" is that people are so easily baited by gossip journalism and inuendo.

Do you realize that many of the representatives become father figures to the youngsters working for them.

On the surface this seems like nothing more than typical interest in a young person who spent months working for the elected official.
