A Jessup Street homeowner shot two men who were trying to break into his house early this morning, Lexington police said.
Investigators say they have information that the home invasion stemmed from a previous domestic violence incident.
"It wasn't random," said Lexington Police Lt. Jon Hicks. "They knew the victim."
When the two men allegedly made entry into the home, Delaise Ander Eller went for his shotgun and fired on Shedarrius Pate, 18, of Link Circle, and Kannell Leach, 21, of Greensboro, police said.
A third suspect, Cyrus Clifford Butler, 24, of Greensboro, was waiting outside in a car.
Pate and Leach, the two men who were shot, ran out of the house and jumped into the car, and all three men sped off, police said.
"They didn't make it even two miles," Hicks said. "Officers arriving on the scene observed the car fleeing from the scene."
Butler, the driver, was arrested and charged with first-degree breaking and entering and placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court Nov. 13.
Pate and Leach were in the back of the car bleeding when police stopped it. Paramedics drove them to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem where they were being treated for gunshot wounds to the arm, elbow and abdomen.
Warrants for breaking and entering were obtained for Pate and Leach, who are listed in fair condition at the hospital.
Police officials say the district attorney's office will now determine whether Eller shot the intruders in self-defense.

If you can't spell your own first name, you might be good criminal material.

Agreed. What the heck kind of name is that? Faux Roman (Fauxman)?
Tee hee hee...
I bet his mom stutters.
Delaise...Shedarrius...Kannell
Somehow, I don't think there is any need to post photos this time.
I hope someone from NC can comment on this... But in Texas there's not much to self defense if you shoot an intruder in your home. Is it so messed up in NC that you have still have some other fear for your safety (on top of two people breaking into your house) before you're allowed to act in self defense?
Good job!
I would like to thank you for your careful notation of location. Some posts get really confusing, as a reader tries to puzzle out where the story took place. Sometimes there are no internal clues at all.
I bet those idiots regret ever going into that guy's house. That is a good lesson for them to learn or anyone else who considers breaking into someone's home. If you make to choice to break into someone's home you deserve whatever consequences come with it. Good for the homeowner for fighting back against those criminals.
They ran away?? Should have used buck-shot insteda bird-seed....
Good job of posting. You even told us which Lexington.
It was conveniently omitted in the article. :)
Where's Hege when you need him? *L*
In some places. Out in rural areas, no. (Some years back it is rumored a deputy arrived on the scene of a shooting and told the homeowner, "You can't shoot somebody on your porch. (Grabbing the body by the collar and dragging it halfway through the door.) Gotta be in the house - like this."
But up around the university towns the liberal Democrats are in full cry, and they buy into the 'every life is sacred except yours' crap.
Not to mention they are corrupt as hell. Been keeping up with that lacrosse 'rape' case?
Occasionally we see folks pass through on the way to the Outer Banks. It's downright strange, seeing people driving by what ain't driving a pickup. What all do they do for a living, that they don't need something to carry the hunting dawgs?
